From Just Do It To I Did It!

I went out for a jog this morning! Woohoo! I lasted all of 10 minutes, and some of that was walking - as a few of you said in the comments from my previous post, it is a lot different jogging outside than on a treadmill! And of course I chose the day that the humidity came back to South Texas - I am sweating from the top of my head on down! But I did it, and that's what matters! Baby steps, I am all about the baby steps.

Did I mention that I made my son Max get up and go with me? On four hours of sleep, no less! (He and his friends stayed up late watching Pulp Fiction.) But once he got going, he ran circles around me, ran backwards, sprinted...oh, to have his energy! Even with all of that, I was glad to have his company for my first-ever outdoor yog, er, jog.

I'll have another opportunity to run on Monday morning (alas, no workouts due to Memorial Day) - I'm gonna shoot for 12 - no, wait...13 minutes!

  1. Good for you on the running! Just take it slow and easy - you don't want to injure yourself. Make it as fun and enjoyable as possible. Keep at it!

  2. Way to go!!!!! WOO-HOO! Congrats!

I had to snicker about Pulp Fiction...I had been married many years when that movie came out and my husband had to explain a certain scene to me--the whole guy in the box and what he was wearing scene. lol I live under a rock, which I think is a good thing.lol

  3. Lucky 13 - that's your new magic number! Go for it! Nice to have company even if they can do what you're doing backwards and upside down. The important thing is you're doing it.

  5. Way to go on the outdoor jogging. I agree, it is much harder on pavement than on the treadmill. I recently joined a learn to run clinic at my local running room and we started out slow and are progressing in minutes. We run, then walk 1 minute and this week are up to 7:1x3. I find the treadmill easier on my joints and legs but running with others is really satisfying.

    Keep up the good work...

  7. Good job on the yog! I think it's funny that people who live in high humidity say it returns this time of year. When I used to visit Miami a lot for Xmas, it felt like 100% humidity all of the time!! ha-ha. I do not envy you living with it AND exercising in it.

  8. Hey, you have a great site! I have recently started my own weight loss journey and found some hope in your story.

Lately I think my scale has been lying to me. I have decided that throwing it out the window is too easy on it. Instead, I am going to punish it by putting my full weight on it every day! Yes, I have begun to have anger issues with inanimate objects...this too shall pass.

  9. Oh man, this reminds me of the first run I took a couple months ago. It lasted maybe 10, 15 minutes, but I felt like a champion afterwards.

Isn't it a great feeling to sweat and heave and feel the face burn? I swear, it's addicting.

  11. In my mind, running in the height of what it means to be fit. You rock!

  13. The "yogging" reference had me laughing out loud! Good for you for getting started running outside . . . I have some grand plans to do something similar, but haven't done it just yet. I think you've inspired me - maybe this will be the week!
