Turn Off The Lights, The Party's Over

Well, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person who used to plan a free weekend around food! Thanks for all the comments - you guys get me, and I love that!

So, I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend. I read, watched TV, ran around in the front yard with Paco the wonder dog and I even made a trip out to the new "health food" store. Which is really an old crappy grocery store that was bought out and the new owners are touting it as a health food place, which in actuality is still the same old crappy store but with a slightly bigger selection of, say, peanut butters. Oh and they have a ton of gluten-free stuff, which would be awesome were I in need of those types of products. But I am not.

I ended up buying 2 avocados (at the low, low price of .44/ea), a huge head of romaine lettuce (.99!), some craisins, gorgonzola and a packet of Simply Organic Pineapple and Cilantro salad dressing mix. You just mix it with water and some white vinegar (package says white wine, but I'll be using rice vinegar because that's what is in my pantry) - no oil, so it's low low in calories. Hopefully it's high high in taste! I have some marinated asparagus, garbanzo beans and toasted pecans to add to - you guessed it - a huge salad that I'll have for dinner tonight. Yum! Usually, I'm not thrilled with how my salads come out - my mom makes the best salads, hands down, and most of the time mine are missing something. Or have too much of something. So I'm hoping for a winner, or at least a first runner-up with this salad. I'll let you know.

This post has gotten away from me! I meant to write about what I've learned from Dr. Oz but will save that for another day.

Let me leave you with one very public commitment: After feeling like a slug during my workout this morning, I talked with Linda about doing something at home, and for the next week, I'm going to do a one-minute plank hold, working on getting my form correct, twice an evening. It may not sound like much, but it is for me, and I am all about the baby steps!

Edited to add: Go here for a Fage yogurt giveaway! Just looking at all the Fage on The Hungry Yogini's page is making my mouth water!

  2. Glad you had a good weekend! I enjoy my time alone when my husband is gone but it's always nice to have them back in the end :)Good luck with your planks. They are so hard but if you really concentrate on your breathing (or really anything besides what you are actually doing) it's a little easier!

  4. One minute planks are like one of my favorite things to do. I love it when the shakes come on and the sweat drips down on the floor. :-)

It looks like nothing, but it is HUGE.

  6. At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, what is a plank hold and are paramedics required?

  7. I don't know what a plank is either but I bet it is funny when Gigi does it!

Shelley, I love Dr. Oz. Did you know he is on Oprah today...it's a rerun but who cares. :-) I have that book...I might get it back out and read it along with you!

  8. Oh Shelley, you hit on some of my favorite subjects: asparagus, avocados, and planks. LOVE the planks. Ever done Dead Bug? Those are easier on my shoulders (you know how bummed out my shoulders are). Look them up on YouTube. There are some good instructional videos there if you're interested. Have fun with the planks!! And don't forget to breathe :)
