WWU - Secrets, Oooh!

When I checked the weather at 5:00 am for our run on Saturday, it was 52 degrees, with rain expected later that afternoon.  Sweet - that is the perfect running temperature for me!  I dressed in a short-sleeved shirt, threw my hair into a ponytail, wore a headband instead of a hat or visor, and we headed over to the clubhouse.  As we drove, it started sprinkling...WHAT?  That was not supposed to happen!  Plus, there was a nice northerly breeze kicking up, which made me regret not wearing a long-sleeved shirt.  I didn't have anything with me, so I just sucked it up and went out for our run, hoping for the best.

Diane was out of town so it was just Cary and I, and we had a good run - I was a little cold when it started raining harder, but it didn't turn into a downpour so at least that was good.  I really need to throw an extra hat and shirt into my running bag for insurance, though.  We got 4 miles in, which felt great; plus it was a much-needed shakeout for my hip/hamstring area, as I was feeling the effects of watching the Olympics for too many hours and had a case of "Olympics Butt" which is ironic - I was sore from inactivity while watching all the athletes do their thing!

We had a treat at Blue Baker on Saturday that I can't tell you about just yet.  One of the bakers gave us some samples of a new pastry that he's been working on - he asked for our opinion as "professional customers" which made us giggle, but if that's how he sees us, then I can't disagree.  Anyway, we got to taste two different pastries and give our verdict; I took a picture of them but he made me promise not to show them on Facebook (apparently he doesn't know how famous Blue Baker is via this blog, LOL), so of course I won't post the picture.  IT'S A SECRET.  That said, he's on the right track with the new items and while we were split as to which flavors we liked individually, as a whole, we loved what he came up with.

Jeff and I ran on Monday morning, for insurance against the predicted rain beginning Tuesday.  Which of course meant it wasn't raining Tuesday morning, but I know if we'd waited for our usual running day, it would have been pouring.  Rain is in the forecast for the next week here, which, really?  We get a few decent months with cooler temperatures before the heat and humidity settle in, and it's raining?  Boo to that.  But yay to our run - even though it was 68 degrees with 94% humidity, I ran an entire mile without stopping!

  2. Its already pretty warm here in Orlando. The daytime highs have been in the 80's already and that doesn't bode well for hurricane season at all! The only saving grace has been the humidity isn't bad yet.

I am impressed that you can run a mile and not stop back in the days when I jogged I never got past running for more than 9 minutes at a time then a 1 minute walk.

Enjoy your cooler weather while it lasts.

  5. I think psycho weather is a country-wide theme this winter. Our weather can't decide between regular winter and spring-like so we've had two solid weeks of grey, rain, super amounts of fog because if it's cold then warms up the ground and air collide. If it rains on Sunday that will be the sixth one in a row. Blah.

I've had several runs this winter where I've worn one thing downstairs and when I open the door I go back upstairs and get more or take off something. And I feel like you - if it's going to be decent running weather WHYYYYYYY does it also have to be rainy, foggy, etc.!!

  6. It keeps raining here when it's not supposed to, and usually right after we've checked the weather, confirmed no rain, and started on a dog walk. Definitely stash an extra hat and long-sleeved tee in your running bag or trunk! When I had regular run dates near my office I always had both with me - you never know what the weather will do!

    Hahaha, "Olympic Butt."

I'm so curious what the new, top secret pastry is! I really need to find a bakery where I can be a regular :)

    1. Thanks - I was a little disappointed in my mile time at first, but then a running buddy who is connected with me on Garmin sent me a message saying that it was a fast mile for me and I thought - yes, it was, compared to my usual miles done with intervals...and I felt a lot better about it. Perspective is a good thing, no matter who it happens to come from.
