FMM - Paco, Plants, and Population Explosion

I was texting with Diane about some extreme maternity pictures that she saw online, and she wondered who would take those kinds of pictures.  I couldn't help but reply with one word - narcissists - along with this picture:
Paco and I, owning our narcissism when it comes to selfies.

Hey, it made her laugh, so my mission was complete.

I've been needing some sort of tray for my mini clay pots, so that when I water my succulents, they don't have to sit on my kitchen counter for most of the day while the pots dry.  Diane and I had gone on a hunt for one but didn't find anything; however, on another trip she found these trays and texted me a picture - I loved them so she picked up two for me:
Side view...
Top view.

The colors are so pretty and I love that the terra cotta looks perfect with my pots.  These are melamine, and were marked down and then were an additional 30% off, so I paid something like $3.20 each for them.  Diane is a good personal shopper - she not only finds the pretty stuff, but the bargains as well!

My late-blooming bougainvillea is continuing to throw out gorgeous flowers:
THIS is what I was hoping for, since what - May?  Yes I'm still a little bitter.

The students are back, the students are back!  This only means something to anyone who lives in a college town, but when your population doubles seemingly overnight, it takes a little while to get used to them again.  You don't dare try to go to any restaurants or grocery stores (or Target, the mecca for new students), or you will get stuck in traffic among hordes of people like you can't imagine...this weekend is worse than the heaviest day of Christmas shopping.  We were already planning on sheltering in place this weekend, but now that Hurricane Harvey is a factor, we'll really be sticking close to home.  The hurricane part won't affect us as we're too far inland, but if the system decides to sit and spin overhead, we'll likely get a lot of rain.  So after breakfast at Blue Baker (which should be safe considering how early we get there), we'll be hunkering down at home.  Knitting and Netflix are on my menu!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Hurricane Harvey is huge and getting stronger could be a cat 4 by the time it makes land fall. I'm glad you live far enough away to not be directly affected. Stay safe this weekend. I'll be holding good thoughts for you.

  2. I was wondering about you too with Harvey. Glad to hear that you're inland enough to not have it be a direct threat! Enjoy your weekend.

    1. Yeah, just lots of rain in store for us...no running, most likely. :(

  3. I'm glad you aren't too close to Harvey. Stay dry!

Our area is like that with tourists. It's nice and then Memorial weekend comes and bam - tourists galore. Between the Saratoga race track south of us and Lake George north, it can make for annoying traffic at times.

    1. Well we will stay dry as long as we don't go outside, LOL.

Tourists - yep. At least your season is shorter than ours, but I will say the student population adds interest to our town...

  4. I love those trays! Nice and colorful!
Glad you won't be severely effected by the hurricane. Stay safe in the storm though!

  5. College students AND a big storm? Your plan sounds perfect to me! The trays look so pretty, and that they are melanine is a plus--no worries about them breaking. The selfie of you and Paco is a classic--you should get it framed.

    1. I swear, I don't know how that dog knows to pose so well except for years of practice? LOL.

  6. Love the trays and the pretty pink blooms. Hopefully the rain won't be to heavy for them.

My brother's name is Harvey, and we used to call him a hurricane LOL. Gotta give him a hard time this weekend.

    1. I just went outside and looked at my pretty pink blooms once more, in case they don't survive the battering of the heavy rain that's supposed to come.

LOL on your brother Harvey. Poor guy! We have a Harvey Road here in town and every time I hear someone referencing the hurricane, I think of the road first.

  7. The early Blue Baker crowd catches the pastries, right? Glad you don't have to worry too much about Harvey - what a great excuse to stay inside and knit!

  8. I hope you don't get hit bad with the hurricane. At least it will cool things down, right?

  9. I feel your college town pain. I love the vibe of a college town, but miss the downtown parking spots and emptier restaurants while they're gone for the summer.

Hope Harvey is all talk! Your hurricane plans sound like our plans when we get snowed in.

    1. What really hurts is that a bunch of really nice restaurants either have just opened or will be opening shortly, in a new center located across from the university...so yeah. Maybe we'll get to try them during the winter break.

  10. Will you mind the rain? I'm thinking a weekend to hunker down with a good book...
