We Had a Ball!

Me and Kaboom, the Bombers mascot.  It was Aggie night, so they were handing out 12th Man towels, which are traditionally waved at Aggie football games.

On Friday evening, our JFR Crew went to a Collegiate League baseball game - not minor league, but rather, a league where universities send their players to hone their skills over the summer.  Our town has a team, the Brazos Valley Bombers, and while Jeff and I like baseball, somehow we've never managed to attend one of these games in the nine years that the team has been here.  We bought tickets as a fundraiser, and through connections, were invited to crash the Brazos Bingo's Party on the Patio at the ballpark, which was pretty sweet - free food and drink!  We had a great time, ate all kinds of food that we probably shouldn't have considering we had a long run the following morning, sweated like fiends because it was 100 degrees and the sun was burning down on us, but hey - you only live once, right?
We got the beer girl to quickly snap a picture - everyone from the JFR Crew was here except for Brian, who arrived later.  Does it look sunny and hot enough to you?  It was!
Fun with food, part I:  Julia and her sausage-on-a-stick mustache.
I jokingly took this picture because I liked Andi's badass stance, and I actually love the shot - she's got a "don't mess with me because I will cut you" vibe happening (which is pretty much the opposite of her in real life - she's very kind, truly).
Once the game started, some of us moved into the stands, where it was still hot but at least it was covered and the sun wasn't directly burning into us.
This was the last game of the regular season, so the stands were pretty full.
Our view of the Party on the Patio - Cary, Cristy and Andi were still out there having a good time.
Fun with food, part II:  My dewberry slushie - it was, as the cup promised, delicious!
Fun with food, part III:  Julia's "funnel cake" - to say she was disappointed would be an understatement.
It was bobble head night at the ballpark, featuring Ty Warren, a Bryan native who played football for Texas A&M as well as the NFL.  CC and Loretta stood in line to get their bobble head autographed, and also got a selfie with Ty!

Jeff didn't bother with the autograph line - he just went for the bobble head.
The Bombers were playing the East Texas Pump Jacks, and were behind 0-6 until the bottom of the sixth inning, when they rallied and scored 6 runs!  Each time a runner came in, the entire team came out to celebrate - I liked the bat salute best.  They tied up the game, and then scored the winning run in the seventh inning!

I came home sweaty, sticky, with a belly full of hotdogs (OK, just two) and slushie, and more happy memories of time spent with good friends.  Sounds like a pretty nice Friday evening to me!

(P.S.  Happy Birthday to my little brother, who probably won't read this, but just in case...one more year until the big one, woohoo!)

  1. What a fun night! Your running club have really become friends who see each other outside the runs too which I love. You have got a whole lot of new friends since you started running.

  2. What a fun time! When we lived in CO, we would go to the Rockies games at Coors Field. Baseball games are more fun when you are at the stadium doing things than watching it on TV :D

Hope that heat breaks for you soon.

    1. There's a lot more going on at baseball games than you see on television, that's for sure!

  3. What a wonderful time! When we went to Orlando one time for spring break with the kids we went to see spring training baseball in a smaller stadium and it was so fun - I can't remember what teams we even saw, but I remember one of the baseball players was named Coco Crisp and it used to make me laugh every time they called his name when he came up to bat!

    1. I noticed that they played a snippet of a specific song for some of the batters, which I bet went with their names (but Coco Crisp is the BEST!) - we didn't have a program so we were a little lost on that, though.

  4. I share Julia's disappointment. That looks like tiny funnel sticks. Nonetheless looks like a fun day. Columbia, MO used to have a minor league team which was fun.

    1. Yeah, it was like funnel fries, and not a lot to boot. Let's face it, when you decide to indulge in funnel cake, you want FUNNEL CAKE.

  5. What a great day for a ballgame. I've never heard of Dewberry before but that slushie sounds yummy and the perfect thing for such a hot day!

    1. That slushie, and about three bottles of water, saved me! I don't normally spend that much time outside when it's sunny and so hot like that.

  6. Yeah, that sounds like super good fun, EXCEPT for the 100 degrees!

  7. Looks like great fun! It's too bad the funnel cake was so small! :-( I've never heard of dewberry either - is it a honeydew melon/berry thing?
