I think I must have been hungry when I opened the email asking me if I'd like some samples of Fiber One products for review...I don't normally eat a lot of processed food like that anymore (although I did in the beginning of my diet). But I accepted, and quick as a flash, the Fed Ex man was at my door with some treats for me.
The first thing I tried was the Coconut Almond protein bar, because hello, how could you go wrong with that flavor combination? While a little on the small side, it was a nice sweet snack. This bar has 140 calories, 6 grams of protein, and 5 grams of fiber. I would have to be really careful with these, because of their size - just a few bites and the bar was gone...it would be too easy for me to reach into the box for another one.
Chocolate, coconut and almond...yum!
I also tried a couple bites of the Caramel Nut protein bar, but quite honestly, that flavor didn't float my boat - it wasn't particularly caramelly nor did it have a distinctive nut taste...I would not waste my calories on this one.
Later on I tried the Chocolate Squares cereal. I liked the stats on this: you get 3/4 of a cup for only 80 calories, plus it has 9 grams of fiber. So what did it taste like? Cocoa Puffs. Well, at least I think so...it's been a long time since I've actually eaten Cocoa Puffs, but this reminded me of it. I wouldn't eat it for breakfast, but if I could exercise a little self-control (I have issues with sweetened cereal), this would make a nice snack once in a while.
While I thought two out of the three products I tried tasted good, I probably wouldn't buy them - but then again, I don't buy much in the way of processed food at this point. However, these types of snacks helped me back when I was in the beginning stages of my diet - especially when the cravings for something sweet would hit. Anything that would help me stay on track with my eating plan and calorie allotment was perfectly acceptable, and usually better than what I would have chosen back then, so I don't want to discourage you from trying them, especially if that is where you are in your weight-loss journey at this point.
Fiber One has offered prize packages of the cereal and protein bars to TWO lucky winners, so if you would like a chance at winning, just leave me a comment saying so - U.S. residents only. I'll announce the winners on Friday - good luck!
