Wednesday Workout Update, and Creative Help, Please

Now that Jeff has amassed three hard-earned half marathon medals, I want to order him a medal hanger.  Mine came from Allied Medal Displays and I love it.  LOVE IT.  So naturally I want to get him one, and customize it.  Problem is that I don't know what to put on it.  When I ordered his Road ID, I put "enjoy the ride" on it, but that was when he was only biking.  He said it would be fine for his medals but it seems a bit lacking to me.  So I'm appealing to all of you creative types out there - can you think of a fun slogan or short phrase for his hanger?  I appreciate any suggestions - thanks!

Last Thursday, I was curious about how long I could run without having to take a break.  Jeff and I went out before dinner to run at scary statue park, where I surprised myself by running the entire loop on the statue side (there is a soccer field side as well) - no stopping!  It was half a mile and took me about 6ish minutes.  I walked for about 1:30, and then ran the loop again.  And again.  And then?  I decided I shouldn't push it any further, considering the race on Sunday.  I was really pleased to have done that - I feel like I'm getting there with my running.  One thing that was interesting, though, is that the next day?  I was feeling that run, not only in my ankle (it stings), but my legs as well - and that was only just over 1.5 miles.  I've done several 3.5 mile runs at 2/1:30 intervals and felt fine - weird that running continuously like that made such a difference.  I was a little worried that I'd done too much before the race, but I felt fine on Sunday, and after, I wasn't any more sore than I was after Thursday's run.  Slowly but surely, I'm reclaiming my running.

I know I probably sound like a schoolgirl crushing on running, and I am, in a way - but it's still quite the challenge when it comes to me vs. myself and getting out there.  If I have a date with a running buddy planned, it's no problem.  I set my alarm, lay out my clothes, and go to it.  But if I know it's just me, myself and I, well - that's a battle.  And yesterday morning, as I was laying in bed, trying to talk myself into getting up and out the door for a solo run (Jenny had to cancel and let me know the night before), I read my email on my little iPod Touch.  Lo and behold, there was a message that our track workout for that night was changed to an easy 2.5 mile Red Mango run (meaning we park near RM, run a couple of loops, and then decamp for a treat).  Whew!  I get to run with people, my favorite...and also get frozen yogurt, my other favorite!  Love it when things work out like that.

  1. I LOVE your phrasing of "a schoolgirl crushing on running" as that is 100% what Im searching for in a cardio outlet.

  2. Does Jeff like superheros (Superman in particular)? You could do: Faster than a speeding train

    Or something along those lines?

  3. How about: Shelley made me do this :)
After all if it wasn't for you he wouldn't have these medals to show.

I agree with Carla that I love the schoolgirl's crush on running. All I can hope for is that I find that crush someday again too because I've seemed to lost it somewhere along my running way.

That was an extra bonus to running with the group: ice cream afterwards! Cool.

  4. what about "the running man" or "my running man" - a play on the dance move? also, a few posts ago you said something about being a running couple, which was very sweet. what if you incorporated something like that into the rack, like "run together, stay together" or "racing is our date night" or "running for love" or "(my) running love" (because it is a gift from you?)

  6. lol. I like the Shelley made me do this!

Do you do the Galloway program? That's what we do for our Sunday runs and what I did the first year I trained with these ladies. After reading his book it seems the run/walk method is less stress on the bones and less injury.

    1. I didn't do Galloway my first go-round, but am sort-of doing it now with the intervals. Still, I'd like to get back to being able to run continuously for miles and miles...long way off from that at the moment.

  7. I love the hanger idea for Jeff's medals!

I am not sure how much space there is - what about:

"All it takes is all you got." ??

    Happy Wednesday!

  8. I'm not creative THAT way. Awaiting Helen's suggestion!

Its interesting that you enjoy your 'alone time' but for exercise you really like the social aspect. Me, I get in get out of the gym, and maybe talk to one or two people BRIEFLY. Of course I have the dogs for company on my walks.

I approve of your slow but sure method of getting back into running. I know my approval is uppermost in your mind LOL.

  9. Wahoo!!! Way to go on the progress with running. When I first started running, I loathed it, despised it, dreaded the hours before I was going to go for a jog. Thirty pounds later (and lighter) I love it! I love how it is so much easier and manageable. I love the feeling of getting my legs pumping and not feeling like I want to die. It's freeing, in a way. You're such a joy to read!

I'd choose something crazy for his metal hanger. "You da man"

  11. How about "Kicking Asphault!" because that's what he seems to be doing with his PRs and all. Good lord, do you think when I get to TX he'll slow down and run with us?

Pacing is such an issue for me that while I always enjoyed my long runs with a group (in case I had trouble) I've always preferred my shorter runs to be alone - unless I'm running with someone slower. I don't mind slowing down but I feel bad when others have to slow down for me. Racing? Forget about it - it's each woman for herself!

I'm glad karma was on your side yesterday and all things worked together for good. I think one day, once you've had a chance to really build on your running, having to run alone won't bother you a bit because what will be most important is that you run.

    2. Surprisingly, he does slow down to run with me - I didn't think he could do it, but he's managing. So we can do a group run after all, when you get here! :)

  12. I have no creative juice left in my brain after working all day. I like the you da man, though!

I totally get your crush. I have that same crush about biking. It's like a not so secret lover that you can't stay away from.

  13. I have a crush on you having a crush on running. It is so cute. Just like a school girl crush. You really pursued your crush intently. It better love you back! I wish I would get a crush with walking again. It will happen. I know it will.

Can't wait to see what you come with for the holder. I do like You da Man. It says it all.

    Yum for RM runs!

  16. Jeff's Jaunts/Jeff's Journeys/[Last Name]'s Bounties

They have some new ones: "I crossed the Line" "Fear No Distance" and "I can go for Miles" that I thought were cool.

    Hope that helps xoxo
