Wednesday Workout Update and Please Help Me With a Costume!

On Tuesday Brad had a *special* workout just for me...I got to do 100 incline push ups and 100 chest presses, which is pictured above. Can you believe he wanted me to do that with 20 pound dumbbells?!? Can you believe that I actually managed to do them with 20 pound dumbbells? It took me a while - I did a set of 38, then 13, then 12...and on and on until I finally reached 100 - I was shaking so much toward the last 30 reps or so that he had to steady my arms to make sure I didn't drop the weights onto my face! This was wild - I never thought I was ready for such a heavy workout, but that's why I go to Brad, because he knows more than I do what I'm capable of doing. I will say that when I got home and went to pull my sweat-soaked shirt over my head my arms weren't quite working properly...but I was surprised that putting on my sports bra and shirt this morning didn't kill me. Of course, there were more upper body sets on the menu today, including a tricep press that looks similar to the chest press...I only managed two sets of 11 of them. My arms are screaming at me now! Ah well. This is what I want. Really!

Ok, now I need your help - Brad has thrown down the gauntlet. If we come to our Monday workout dressed in a Christmas costume, we can choose one exercise to be exempt from for the entire month of January; of course you know I would choose to not do those dastardly burpees! So the outfit has to be something that I can workout in - which rules out my first idea, a Christmas gift (picture a big gift-wrapped box around my torso with my arms and legs sticking out) - and it can't just be a Santa hat. Plus I don't want to spend much, if any, cash on this...so, that said, do y'all have any ideas?

  1. Maybe a candy cane? Red/white stripped shirt and red bottoms? Or an elf. Red and green Tights, bells on your shoes and one of those cheap felt hats theyre selling everywhere this time of year.

  2. I'm not good with costumes--the only thing that came to mind was buying (which you don't want to do) green shirt and green leggings/sweats/whatever and going as a tree. lol You could pin some soft ornaments on, or paint them, or whatever.

My arms were screaming reading about your workout! Woo-hoo. I want that burn, that build, too. Way to go!

Jari Love's Ripped and Chiseled DVD does that to my arms, but she uses light reps and light weights--endurance. I love the feeling the next day of having major doms in my triceps.

A nice person on a video fitness board I read is sending me Cathe's Slow and Heavy DVD. I expect to get that screaming feeling with that DVD as well!

  4. OMG - the workout had MY arms feeling like noodles. You are amazing.

I think you should take a page from Aunt Bernice of Sugarbaker's fame and wear your Tree Skirt.

  5. I WANT BRAD! I suggest you wrap him up for Christmas and ship him to me for a week so I can enjoy his bootcamp workouts too :)

  6. I like Tricia's candy cane outfit idea or maybe a Santa hat (that can soak up your excess sweat!)

  7. oh good god! 100! you're a stud.

Normally costumes are my thing, but I really can't come up with something that would be easy to put together, inexpensively and quickly and be super clever. My first thought was since you are totally buff these days you should go as Jillian Michaels dressed as Santa.

Good luck and let us know what you came up with. If I come up with something super clever, I'll get back to you.

    Off to go think...

  8. What an awesome undertaking. I just found your blog and I think it's sweet. I've had that shaky arm thing happen before :) I've been working on the same type of thing. Isn't lifestyle change fun? If you want to see my blog too feel free to check it out.

  10. I think the tree is a cute idea, you could wear green or brown leggings or tights and then a green shirt and paint on Christmas ornaments, or just wrap some garland around yourself!

  11. After surviving that kind of workout, go as Chuck Norris in a Santa hat. I've got some facial hair I can loan you.

  12. Holy cow, woman! If I tried to do 100 presses with 20 lbs weights, the resulting accident would involve my face permanently looking like a pug.

Go as a pink bunny, just like in Christmas Story! Oh, you'd probably sweat like mad, tho. Unless you wore pink workout clothes with bunny ears!

  13. Wrap yourself in aluminum foil and throw yourself at Brad and tell him you're a huge piece of tinsel.
    (sorry)

  14. Dress in yellow and go as eggnog. LOL Dress in red and go as a cranberry?

Your workouts always make my jaw drop. I can only hope to be able to do HALF of what you do eventually.

  15. My goodness, you are a machine!

Do you have black workout gear? If so, there are a lot of options there. Craft or hardware stores sell colored duct tape. That's how I made my bee costume for halloween!

You could make yourself a present with a bow of colored duct tape.

If you have white workout gear (or even white long john's!) you could do the same thing and make a candycane with red tape.

  16. I immediately thought of an elf...or I like the candy cane idea too! Or you could go as "jane" Frost...

  17. haha my first thought before I clicked on comments was "candy cane", and then there was Tricia's comment.

There is prob some stuff here u can work with that ppl have sugg so far, but I also thought of putting a pillow in your workout top and maybe a towel & headband and say you are Mary mother of Jesus, about to give birth! (you would probably be the only one in that costume...) =) Sorry, you can't wear sandals, either. Guess you shouldn't be a Christmas cookie.. in any case, we get to see a photo, don't we?

Oh my word your exercises today, woman.

  18. Brown workout clothes, antlers, and a red nose from the drugstore... Rudolph?

  19. how the HELL do you do this?!?! You continually amaze me.

I got no great ideas, except maybe a boatload of cotton/balls on you and go as snow. :)

  20. I think you should go as Rudolph... dress in brown, head band antlers and paint your nose red.

  21. Wow - 20 pound weights! And I thought my 4 pound sculpting ball was heavy! :D

Oh, I am horrible at being creative that way - sorry!
