Wednesday Workout Update - Random Edition

This is a bit of a random post, so bear with me - I'm kind of scattered today.

First off - the Wednesday Workout Update. Linda is selling her goats at the state fair in Dallas (she's a gal with many interests) so it was all Brad this week, which is a bit scary - he's pretty intense! And on my Tuesday workout, it was just me and one other woman (everyone else was out with the flu - it's hit our area hard already) - which meant Brad got to focus on us - yikes! That day, after killing myself on the rower in cardio (I reached 1085 rpm, which is a first for me), Brad had me do the "Cindy" workout which was 5 ring pull ups, 10 push ups and 15 squats - as many sets as you can do in 20 minutes. I told Brad I didn't know who Cindy was but I wasn't too pleased with her! (He said that workouts are often named after trainers...I just hope he never discovers the "Jillian" workout or I'll be toast!). Anyway, I got 15 sets in...and then went back for my workout this morning, so yeah, I am feeling every muscle in my body right about now! And to show you how hard I've been working, take a look at the picture below:
I've got another hand that matches this one - ouchies! I think it's time to get a better pair of weight gloves - I definitely need some more padding.

For the gym's 4th week challenge, I kept a food journal, which is something I haven't done in a few months. I have to say that it was kind of a pain to log in all the ingredients of my salad - I don't bother with lettuce, cucumber, mushrooms, strawberries or tomatoes, because the calorie count is minimal, but having to list pecans, Gorgonzola, dried papaya, garbanzo beans, avocado, chicken and salad dressing was time-consuming. It made me realize that eating intuitively, which I started doing in June, is still the right thing for me at this point in my diet. Case in point: I was so hungry this morning I felt like I could have gnawed my arm off. Made an early lunch of a whole-wheat chicken quesadilla and a bunch of grapes. The grapes have been finished off, but even though I was so hungry at the start, I didn't finish the quesadilla - I just felt done. And I listened to my body and stopped - I'm getting better and better at this!

Here's a side-by-side comparison (I tried to pose the same way) of me in my size 14 jeans and my size 10 jeans. There is a 30 pound weight difference from the shot on the left, taken in March, to the one on the right, taken last week. So six months, 30 pounds and two sizes down - progress is going slow, but it's steady, so I'll take it.
I miss the shirt on the left - loved the blues and purples in it!

And click here to listen to a podcast by volleyball star Gabby Reece - our own MizFit was part of the roundtable discussion, and in a recent post had asked what questions we had for Gabby - mine was one of the questions that was picked! I have no shame to say that I screamed like a little girl when I heard my name said out loud!

  1. What a difference in those pictures! It looks like you lost weight in your legs as well though it's hard to know with pants. But 30 pounds in 6 months is something to be very proud of. Can't wait until I can say that too!

  2. LOOKIT YOU! Rock those skinny legs.

Progress may seem slow, but it's working for you. No doubt this will keep you going in the long, long term.

    And ouchies on the hands.

  3. Wauw you can really see the change! You look great.

You made me laugh out loud over your comment on Cindy :) I wouldn't be pleased with her either!

Well done on your workouts, you still are my fitness inspiration!

  4. Way to rock it at the gym AND in those size 10 pants!

The informant was good, but I don't think movie theater worthy - a good story but you don't need to see it on a big screen like some movies.

Plus I hate when people say "that was the best movie I ever saw!" and you go see it and end up disappointed!

    Happy Hump Day Shelley! :D

  5. I don't think I have ever told you, but from the beginning of my weight loss efforts, you have been one of the biggest inspirations to me. There I said it, its true!

Ouch at your sore hands - hope those blisters settle down soon.

And, wow at the photos - you look fantastic!

  6. You look great! You are a testament to how working out can change your body.

And get thee some gloves hence! Your hands will thank you. Wear them for biking, too.

  8. That's an incredible difference between those two photos. You are beautiful in both to be sure, but the smaller you looks extra radiant!

  9. Wow you are really hustling. I saw you bike pics too on the side of the blog. I just got a bike and I hope to say it will see a lot less of my backside a year from now!

At Foolsfitness it's all about riding your bicycle... to the ice cream shop, the to get a large coffee with extra sugar... then to the store on the way home for a candy bar...- Alan

  10. Ouch, yeah--I'd say some gloves would be a good idea. But what a great sign that you're working hard.

And I love the progress photos! You look so cute, and it's great to see all your hard work pay off.

I love that you're in it for the long haul and not about quick unsustainable shortcuts.

  11. Ah Shelley you give me hope that I just might look as good as you in my after picture! Who cares how long it takes or the pace of it all. AND you're doing it intuitively? Wow.

  14. 30 lbs in 6 months is lickety split!

You really can see it, esp in your face, shoulders, chest and legs.

  15. You look great! I love the side by side comparison, you can really tell in your face and your legs. So inspirational!

I had a boot camp yesterday I did that was killer too! But I would never work out that hard by myself, so I think its worth it. And, you definitely need some gloves!

    Great Job!!!

  16. Ouch. I used to get blisters on my hands too when I would work out. Now they are just calysed.

  17. I think it's time you cut face a break - it's no longer the shining star of your body. I believe that arms, waist, belly and thighs are now taking some credit. Look how much smaller your shoulders are!
OK just reread that first sentence. Gotta think of a better way to say that. Your face is still beautiful, as always - it just no longer hogging all the weight-loss credit. Is that better? Hang on while I swallow my foot. Mmmmm. Tasty. Boy I really hope foot doesn't make me fat. ter.

  18. You look awesome! It is amazing to start going through old photos and watching yourself shrink!

The food you make for yourself always sounds so delicious to me, I have no imagination and end up eating the same boring things all the time.

  19. Wow! You're just shrinking right up, aren't ya? Lookin' good girl!! Don't worry about the rate of progress...you are doing JUST fine. All you need to remember is that every pound gone is one you will never see again. :)
