Those mental pictures? AKA hallucinations from running for so damn long. HA! I knew you could do it. And you should do it again and again and again.... you get my point. Pretty soon 5 will be a mid-length run for you and not your long run. You are absolutely right not to worry about speed - just get the distance in. You need to get those legs used to turning over and over and over for that 10K. I drink 8 oz. for every 2-2.5 miles when it's hottish so for my long run this week, I'll be taking all four of the Fuel Belt bottles. I'd rather have extra than not enough.Helenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14974376008651624094noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3067665701316634699.post-90261121768262010552010-07-15T15:52:03.963-05:002010-07-15T15:52:03.963-05:00Sunglasses on that dude? What I do know is that you have to drink before you get thirsty. If it didn't bother you, I wouldn't worry about it.

I had to laugh about Bruce and Matt :)

At my first 10K I knew what time I was about to finish and I made a playlist for that run. I especially appreciate your runs...Great workouts. I especially appreciate your runs. 5 miles feels righteous, doesn't it?! I like to mix mine up. At my age I don't think I want to run long every time, so I alternate longer (5-6) and shorter (3-4) runs. Like you, I think it's smart to mix in lifting or biking or other cardio activities. Good luck on your fast 1 miler. OH, and in answer to your initial question (was it rhetorical??)--you were up that early because it's slightly less horrible, weather-wise to run before the heat and humidity do their best to do you in.Tishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01039903741028922963noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3067665701316634699.post-10935023881473578952010-07-14T20:39:47.689-05:002010-07-14T20:39:47.689-05:00Great story about Chuckie and the broken arms. If you sip a lot, you will do much better than lots of big gulps, which cause sloshing and return of said beverage. I drink probably 1/2 cup for each mile or so, and then a bunch when I am done.Lorihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09781375451012608773noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3067665701316634699.post-30468759905337876582010-07-14T14:36:32.188-05:002010-07-14T14:36:32.188-05:00I'm impressed by your 5 miles! When I am walking I fix my gaze on an object off in tehdistance, e.g. a street lamp pole, and mentally tie that rope to it and pull myself to it. Why it works I don't know, but my arms get more into the rythmn of my walk when I do so and i move my butt faster. Visualization is a great trick!Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11534171345610201608noreply@blogger.com
