WWU - News Alert: It's Still Hot

While the Renegade Run Club is a closed group, we do allow for friendly visitors to run/walk with us, which is how Diane and I ended up doing our run with Brian's dad following behind on Saturday.  We ran intervals, he walked, and he was just far enough behind that every time we made a turn, we made sure he saw us because it was dark and the neighborhood where we run is easy to get turned around in if you're not familiar with it.  To be honest, I've gotten turned around there more than once; runner's brain is real, haha.

It was so stinkin' hot - 80 degrees but with super high humidity so the "feels like" temp was close to 90 degrees; all we wanted to do was get through 3 miles without croaking.  I think setting the bar so low was a good thing, because despite the oppressive weather, we both had a pretty decent run, which is saying a lot at this point.

We cooled down on the driveway for a bit and I couldn't resist taking a picture of Andi with her sweet new shoes:
I'm super jealous of her lime green soles!

After the run we did our usual Blue Baker breakfast, but instead of lazing around the rest of the day, we had a mini Renegade trip to Austin - Andi, Diane, and I accompanied Cary to her hair appointment and then we went to Ikea.  Well, between that we stopped for Mexican food, but Ikea was the big event.  And even though I felt carsick on the way there, it was still a great day.  I love that while we started out as running friends, we've become regular friends along the way.

Yesterday, Diane and I managed to knock out an entire 2.25 miles before calling it; this crushing humidity and high dew point, plus the high temps, makes for running to be extra hard, and we weren't feeling it.  I look forward to the day when we are back to sweating because we're pushing ourselves with a run instead of sweating because we dared to step outside.

  1. Oh boy, I really do feel for you guys and admire that you go ahead and give it a good try. My run this morning was SO HARD - it was 73 and 90% humidity and the dewpoint was 70 and I just kept feeling like if I tried to push I was going to be sick. It wasn't imagined because when I got home and looked at my heart rate I had consistently been in the red zone, even though I ran slower than yesterday. Heat and humidity are real run crushers. I don't know how you guys manage not to just resort to walking all the time!

    1. I actually noted the stats in my runner's journal for yesterday's run because it was so bad:
      temp - 79
      dew pt - 78
      humidity - 89
      feels like - 86

I think we can run (a bit, anyway) because we live with this every damn day for months; of course, we don't like it, and it definitely is not easy. Sorry your run was so bad today...definitely don't push it - you don't want to be sick!

  2. Someone else came up with the adjective "rainforestry". I thought I'd pass it along to you! ;) I love it when runner friends become regular friends.

    1. Rainforestry is a very good description for our muggy running weather. :)

  3. I love when my runner friends become my regular friends. I was thinking about that this morning--how almost all my friends are runners.

  4. Fun trip to Ikea--do we get to see what you got on Friday?? And now I want Mexican food. Funny thing, though. I don't want to run in the humidity at all. Selective influence :)

    1. LOL on the selective influence! I didn't buy anything too exciting at Ikea, but I checked out some cool tables for my living room redo (for next year).

  5. Having friends to run with probably makes it easier. At least easier not to talk yourself out of skipping it lol. It's great that you guys do other things together too.

Our weather right now: 86f, feels like 95f. Humidity 70% dew point 75. Thunderstorms expected to start in a couple hours. (Like we need more humidity!) I'm ready for fall weather.

*The lime green shoes are awesome. Nothing like new shoes for motivation.

    1. Your weather sounds very similar to ours - will you get fall temps soon, or have to wait until nearly Halloween, like us?

    2. Our weather sounds exactly like yours. It stays in the upper 70s-low 80s all night. Last night thunderstorms left us with 100% humidity today!

It will be middle to late October before fall arrives. And I'm ready.

  6. I hope it cools down a bit for you guys. It was only 80 here yesterday and I still struggled with my run. It was humid too but I won't complain cus I know you have it worse.

    1. Well, we have it bad but 80 is rough to run in, too!

  7. Don't you wish you could run at 3 am and have it be light out? Ugh.

    1. Not really - it doesn't cool down overnight here...it was 82 degrees at 3:00 am today (yes I was awake, thank you terrible sleeping habits).
