WWU - Getting Back to Normal

So the good news is that Diane has returned from her month-plus family visit north.  She got to enjoy much cooler weather and much lower humidity levels, which probably made it all that more painful to experience the 105 degree day here on Saturday.  Needless to say, she, Cary, and I walked three miles that morning - the feels like temp was already close to 90 degrees at 6:00 am, so we decided to take it easy.

Afterward, we went to Blue Baker but our favorite baker had already left for the day (his shift starts shortly after midnight); however, Cary noticed that there was a loaf of ciabatta bread sitting out, and she mentioned to me that he probably left it for us.  Sure enough, another baker eventually brought it out for us, and yes, it was definitely ours:
Tagged and everything!

Our group sprang into action, procuring extra butter for the bread and tearing off hunks to share.  By then, I'd actually eaten enough that I was pretty full, so I didn't partake - I'll have to do some recon before eating my breakfast next time, to see if I need to save room for delicious ciabatta!

Yesterday Diane and I actually ran, and despite her trying to break a baby toe a couple of times over the last week, plus having a full month off from running, she did great!  We had some relief with the weather, which to a lot of you probably doesn't sound like an improvement, but trust me, it was - it was only 77 degrees with 65% humidity - 65%!!!  We've been in the 94 - 100% humidity level for months now, so this was fantastic.  Thank you, weather gods, for giving us a break.  I'm sure the humidity and heat will jump back up, but this was a welcome reminder that better weather will eventually head our way.

Now that Diane is back, I'll start running again on Thursday mornings as well - I pretty much took that day off during July.  Hey, it's the off-season!  We're still taking it easy because of the heat, but a couple miles here and there feels good.  And hey, maybe this weekend we'll actually run three miles instead of walking it - who knows!  We won't be running until Sunday anyway, as we're hosting a baby shower for Cary on Saturday - yay!

  1. I'm happy your running partner is back! I bet you guys will be surprised at how fast you recover your running. Thank you muscle memory. Are you still running the 1:30/30 run walk intervals or did you change that to ease back in?

    1. We ran 1:30/45 intervals, but when we started out I told Diane we could reverse them if need be, to get her eased back in. She did fine with our standard intervals; just wish her toe wasn't hurting her.

    1. The ciabatta is our baker's pride and joy out of everything he bakes, and I love that he wants to share it with us. :)

  3. The long awaited baby shower--yay!

Your humidity is unreal. Whenever we have a summer shower, and a little humidity occurs (probably 20%) I think about you. That you even walk out the front door is a huge accomplishment!

    1. I think we've become accustomed to the humidity much like the frogs in the pot of water that slowly begins to boil...this is our normal, but normal people would really feel it, LOL!

  4. I"m glad you have your accountability partner back! I'm heading to the deep south tomorrow to visit Holly and I'm dreading running in that heat. We have humidity but it's nothing like what you guys have.
