FMM - Super Random Stuff

I was happy to find a Universal Studios Starbucks mug when we were there last month - I looked while we were visiting in November, but didn't see any, so I was pleased to add it to my collection after this visit:
I just love it!

Speaking of my mugs, I've been considering doing a display like this for them:
Can't remember where I saw this, but I know that the system is from Ikea.

Of course, I could only fit one row of mugs between my countertop and my cabinets, so it wouldn't look exactly like this, but I do love my Starbucks mugs and it would be fun to see them on display.  But what's stopping me is that I go toward more of a minimalist vibe in my kitchen, so this might drive me crazy after a while.  It's probably a good thing that I don't have an Ikea nearby, otherwise I might have already jumped on this.  So, I'm still pondering.

I got a sample of a sunless tanning towelette in a beauty box a few months ago and finally used it, and I was really pleased with the results!  While I'm not looking for anything really dark, I do like my legs looking less ghost-white and more on the ghost-who's-been-outside color spectrum.  Plus, when it's so hot, I change into shorts after our Saturday run to go to Blue Baker instead of wearing some long joggers, and I feel more comfortable taking less-white legs out in public.  This is what I used:
I have to say, the name appeals to the former California teenager in me...

It's kind of expensive - you only get five towelettes per box, and it's about $15 at Target but I found it for about $12 on Amazon.  I figured that I will only need these through the summer, and I only use them once a week, so why not?  The smell is much more pleasant than the regular lotion sunless tanners that I've previously used, too - and my "tan" lasted most of the week.

I was sitting and knitting earlier this week when I heard snoring.  Looked over to see this:
Goofy dog - his nose was smushed against the pillow!  I'm surprised he was getting any air in!

********************

Oh - speaking of dogs, have you watched the new TV show Downward Dog?  It's on ABC and is so good...you can tell that the writers have devoted dogs, because they've nailed the dog in this show perfectly.  Catch it online or on Hulu; I promise, if you're a dog person, you will love it.

Speaking of sitting and knitting, I have been doing a lot of that, but can't show you anything for a while as they are baby gifts.  In between the baby items, when I need to do some mindless knitting, I'm working on a sock, so maybe I'll at least get that done soon.  Be prepared for maximum cuteness, though, when I can finally show you the baby stuff - anything in tiny form is just so darn adorable!

Today is our 33rd wedding anniversary - yikes!  I'm hoping Jeff can take the afternoon off and we can do something exciting, like go to the nursery and get a couple more plants for our yard.  The secret to a long lasting marriage is...heck, I don't know.  But having some shared interests helps, so making our yard look nice is on the agenda.  And maybe tomorrow we'll run 3.3 miles, although that doesn't seem like much.  Hmmm.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Happy Anniversary! Congrats on the 33 years that is awesome! I have been married only 20 years. Where does the time go? Goes by fast doesn't it?

    1. Thanks, Susan - it really does fly by.

  2. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Some of our best anniversaries have been days where we just hung out together doing the mundane things that keep a home and marriage ticking.

I need to buy a pack of those sun towelettes. I'm always ready to wear skirts without pantyhose before my legs are ready for that.

My mom has all the walls in her kitchen covered with mugs. People started giving her mugs years ago - I can't even remember why - and she didn't have room in her cabinets. I will say only one thing: they become dust collectors because who wants to dust 50 mugs every damn week?

    1. Thanks! It will be nice to get the yard made pretty; it's not like we need anything (that we can afford, haha, like all new flooring for the house), so this will tide us over until then. :)

I've used several different kinds of suntanning lotions and these towelettes are by far the best smelling and the nicest color. Bet you'll like them too.

Good point on the mugs and dust...I know that's why I don't have a ton of stuff on my countertops as is.

  3. Love my Starbucks mugs but I didn't start collecting until I stopped traveling for work so I only have a few. I need to get more!!

    1. It's really fun to see what iconic images of the place you're visiting end up on the mugs, I have to say.

  4. Happy anniversary to you! How many Starbucks mugs do you have? I was just introduced to Sunbum this week when my sister shared a facial sunblock with me. It was a tiny solid stick and it was $10 which I thought was high. I got a different brand stick in a runner box but I don't know how much that one cost.

Hope you do some fun "planting" today!

    1. I just counted - I have 14, plus a tiny Houston mug (they have started making itty bitty mugs, which are pretty adorable).

  5. I got sunburned yesterday! I was shocked when I saw it. Too long in the pool. My legs get freckled even though they're in the water the whole time I'm in the pool.

I'm always surprised when I hear a dog snoring, and it's not one of the pugs. Oh, and thanks for the Downward Dog recommendation, I love that show. And not just for the dog, its just a good show!

Waiting impatiently to see knitted baby things!

Happy anniversary to you and Jeff! Buying a new plant is one of my favorite ways to celebrate.

    1. Wait, is your pool outdoors? For some reason I thought it was inside.

Glad you are enjoying Downward Dog. Sometimes I call Paco Martin now, when he's being especially Martin-ish. ;)

    2. Yes, its definitely outdoors. Lately my eyes have been bothering me, so I guess I'll have to start wearing a hat like most of the other walkers do!

Paco is definitely Martin-ish. I think a whole 'nother show might have to be created for Sophie.

    3. More kudos to you than ever for swimming outdoors! I mean, I know you're in California, but still...sun and the elements make it more challenging that way for sure.

Can't wait to see the baby things.

  7. Happy anniversary!

With your limited space, I bet that a small rack would look good and you could rotate the mugs to keep it interesting.

    1. Still pondering; Jeff is near an Ikea this week and I didn't ask him to go get the system, so I still can't commit, LOL.

  8. Congrats on 33 years to you and Jeff!

And it's my turn to be jealous of you - all that Starbuck's mug goodness! I only have about 10, but have broken several of the older series that will be difficult to replace :-( It is one of our favorite things to pick up when traveling - even when you have to go to 3 different stores to find one (I'm looking at YOU, Washington D.C.!) As for dusting, my mini-collection fits in the cupboard (not much else does, tho...) Have a great weekend!

  9. Well, wow on the mugs! I have about 5 or 6, mostly from my sister trips. But why in the love of everything is there no Charleston mug? Seriously, when I saw you have a universal studios mug, that makes no sense to me?

  11. I should get some of those towelettes. Putting the sunless tanner lotion on seems like a lot of work sometimes.

    1. I don't like putting on lotion in general, so the towelettes appeal to me even more for that reason. :)

  12. Happy anniversary! (bit late though).

I think I will love that dog show, will check when it's on Dutch TV or Netflix because I want to watch it too.

    1. Thanks! I know you'd love the dog show - it's on Hulu here and also On Demand, if that helps you find it.

  13. Oops! I forgot to say Happy Anniversary on the last post! :)

We are scheming a way to display our SB mugs! I think I am going to do some floating shelves with only 12 up at a time. Maybe rotate out? Can't wait to see what you do!

Gosh, I need to get back to knitting. You posting about it makes me want to!
