Friday Mishmash

Thank you for all of the kind words regarding my eyelid surgery - I appreciate them so much!  I did get my more detailed eyelid surgery page written and posted, so if you want to learn even more about the process and see lots of progress pictures, click here.

Hey, speaking of eyes, it turns out that I didn't have a whole lot in the way of eye shadow...when you can't see it, you don't bother much with it.  But when we were in Austin last weekend, I went to the makeup department at Nordstrom and had a mini makeover on my eyes, and came away with this palette of shadow:
So many colors!!!

I played around with the makeup, and then took this picture to document my eyes at four weeks post-surgery - I'm really pleased with how good my eyelids are looking:

Oh, I also had a bunch of layers cut into my hair last week, so the natural wave is back, which makes styling it so easy and fast.  Good thing, since now I'm spending extra time with makeup!

Remember the plants we bought at the plant sale about a month ago?  Well, I had a pleasant surprise with the trio of little green plants - they have tiny blooms on them:
They look like little Mickey Mouses, if Mickey Mouse had red ears and a purple face.

I've been busy with knitting my sweater, and used up my first skein of the tan yarn, so I wound the next one.  Since I had my yarn swift and winder out, I went ahead and wound the next skein of blue - or rather, I tried to wind it.  Sometimes hand-dyed yarn is not reskeined properly after dying, and you get a mess:

UGH.  This is not fun to deal with - you have to hand wind the ball of yarn, weaving in and out of all the tangles.
A week later, and this is as far as I've gotten - I can only do so much before I stop out of frustration.

All of that yarn winding cut into my knitting time, but I have made some good progress on the body of my sweater:
I am finished with the decreases (you can see them on the left side), I knit some straight rows, and now I'm starting the increases (for the hip area).  It's coming along, and best of all, I am really liking how it's turning out!

I still don't have that last sock to show you.  Seriously, I have about a quarter inch of ribbing to finish and then bind off, but this last week has been either all sweater, or all yarn winding.

We are in town this weekend, yay!  Of course we have our regular run on tap tomorrow, but I'm hoping the weather holds out and I can start pressure washing our driveway.  Living large over here, yes I am.  Have a great weekend!

  1. Oooooh did you buy special wash for the driveway? All that stuff is on sale around here right now and I was looking at the one for driveways and patios last night lol.

Loving that eyeshadow palette but of course I would. Watch out for your wallet though, all the pretty eyeshadow colors can empty it!

    1. No special wash, just water alone should clean it, much like the front path. I probably will buy some window cleaner for the PW one of these days, though.

Oh, believe me, I'm already looking at other eye shadows! Maybe in another couple months, I'll splurge again.

  3. How fun to rediscover eye makeup again! Ooooh I like your sweater. Your brave tackling a top down sweater first. I feel your frustration with your tangled yarn.
Have fun with your run tomorrow and doing your pressure washing on the driveway.

    1. I've only knitted things top down - I like to be able to try on as I go and check the fit. But now I'm curious if knitting from the bottom up is easier?

  4. Love the eyeshadow shades! I hate it when my yarn does that. It is very frustrating. Oh if I only had the patience as you do in knitting a sweater. It is looking great. Love you color scheme!!

    1. My sweater, your afghan...I look at what you create and think I could never last long enough to finish something so big.

  5. You hair is so pretty all curly like that! I fight to control my frizz, natural drying never looks good for me.

That yarn thing - I swear it looks like something out of War of the Worlds.

    1. I use a little bit of product in my hair - but you'd think with our humidity, it would frizz a lot more than it does.

  6. Eye shadow! Great colors. I used to be the makeup queen, but then I got to be so allergic to any kind of make-up. I still remember the last time I tried. I had to get up halfway through a knitting class and go wash my face!

That yarn mess? SOOOOO frustrating. I have been known to cut whole hunks out of a skein. But of course you can't do that when its intended for a sweater! The sweater looks so fantastic.

Oh, and your hair looks fantastic! I am calling today to get an appointment for layers!!!

    1. With your wavy hair, I bet the layers will look fantastic on you!

And Jeff suggested cutting the blue yarn, but no, that would not work for a sweater. I'll get back to detangling it soon.

  9. Can I ask what the pallet is? Who made it, I mean! :P

  10. Nice palet of colors. I wear makeup on work days and if I have to go somewhere at the weekend. If I don't have to go anywhere I don't bother putting it on.

    Your hair looks very nice.

Is this your first sweater you are knitting?
