Friday Mishmash

We got our new plants potted and our yard spruced up:

I can't remember what these were called - I know, so helpful.  But we thought they'd fill in the empty area around the stems of this plant, so we bought these little green plants.
Dwarf Chenille plant - Jeff's pick.  It should spread as ground cover so we put it in a bare spot in the front bed.  Supposed to attract butterflies, which would be nice.
New Gold Lantana - another butterfly attracting plant.
I smelled the lavender and couldn't resist buying it!
Some sort of blooming ivy that Cary recommended; it looks so pretty in the blue pot.
Our collection of potted plants is growing, literally and figuratively, and everything looks so nice on the clean patio!

So you know my mom makes felted items - usually scarves and table runners - and she often sends me pictures of her latest project.  A couple of weeks ago, she sent a picture of a pillow that she was making and I laid claim to it immediately:

How fun is this?!!  I love it.
It's perfect for my bed - it's hard to see in the picture, but there's a thin orange stripe on my duvet cover.  I love the combination of colors - they just pop and make the room feel happy!

I got to shop like money was no object last week and boy was that fun!  Along with getting to choose the Fossil purses and wallets for the hospital gift shop, Rosalie and I also got to order Fossil watches, too.  It was entertaining, and also just a little stressful, because of course we're trying to choose items that we think our customers will like.  We each have a little different taste, which hopefully will make for a good selection - Rosalie leans toward the sparkly, blingy watches with metal bands, while I went for the modern and retro styles with leather bands.  I swear, getting to "play" gift shop has been a blast; we've even received feedback from some of the hospital staff/customers who've said that they enjoy the friendliness of the gift shop, which makes us feel good, as we try to engage with everyone when they come in to browse.

No knitting projects to show you today, but never fear, you will get your fill of knitting info in Monday's post.  Have a great weekend!

  1. Your patio looks so neat and tidy! Its funny that we can grow some of the same plants here Florida that you grow in Texas.

I like your new pillow cool colors! Shopping where money doesn't matter would be fun of course, I have never had
that experience but I can imagine that it would be fun!

Will you be running with your group this weekend?

    Have a great weekend.

    1. Yeah, I suspect our climates are pretty much the same for what we can grow.

  2. Your patio looks awesome! Love the flower selections and all your pretty planters. I have been browsing catalogs and ideas for patio planters this spring. We just got 11 inches of snow this week, so I'm still just planning

  3. OK, was she secretly making that pillow for you? It's perfect for your bedroom and I really enjoy that color scheme too.

You and Rosalie are real assets to that gift shop.

    1. I'd like to think that she was thinking of me when she put that pillow together, but I know she likes those colors, too. Any case, it worked out very well for me. :)

  4. If those are the pots you're getting at HEB, I'm jealous! I would like similar for my patio but every year we look and every year decide it's too much money. Anyway, yours look great.

How fun to spend someone else's money and shop to your heart's content!

    1. They are - the biggest pot, the blue one, was the most expensive at a whopping $17. I KNOW!!! Irks me that we spent way more on the pots in our front yard (before we knew of the HEB pots).

  5. I love the chenille plant - the catkins are so soft. I might need to look in to getting some for myself! :D

You'll get some bees with the lavender, too - go Shelley on saving the bees!

I actually think $17 is a really good price on such a big pot if it's glazed ceramic. Pots around here are expensive. Not sure what HEB is, but sounds like we need one out here.

    1. The chenille plant is looking really good - it's responded well to a good rain soaking we had a few days ago.

Yep, the pots are glazed ceramic. The same size at Lowe's runs $40 - $60, which is out of our league. HEB is a Texas-sized grocery store.

  6. Sounds like you're have a blast in the gift shop. I always enjoyed working retail (the few jobs i've had)! Are those the plants you bought at the plant sale?

  8. It's nice to see those plants in bloom! Things are starting to get green here. And now it's cold again...

    1. We turned cold this weekend, but it's a relative cold - in the 50s. The plants and I can handle it, luckily.

  9. I adore Fossil purses! They last forever. Your pots look so pretty. I've got to get busy soon (still a little cool at night here) and get mine ready for the pool deck. I do the potting but make my kids do all the watering. LOL. It's a chore!

    1. You are not kidding on the longevity of Fossil items - I have a wallet that I finally stopped using after about five years; it looked brand new, but I was ready for a change. Still feel a little guilt about that...

  10. The pots look very pretty.

And the pillow is so cute.

Maybe it's a good thing that you both have different taste, this way you can help more customers who have the same taste. So much fun, shopping without having to watch what you spend. :)

  11. I used to work as a treasurer for a non-profit organization.....paying THEIR bills was AWESOME...didn't hurt at all! But shopping for someone else would be sooo much better!
