WWU - 8 Miles, Again

I know I'm sounding like a broken record at this point, but we ran 8 miles again on Saturday.  Woohoo?  Really, we only had 6 on the schedule, but our crew opted to do 8  just because we felt like it.  We all started early, at 5:30 am, and got it done in a decent time frame.  It was 62 degrees and while the humidity was lower than it's been, there was still plenty of sweat happening.  One of these days I will remember to put Body Glide/2Toms on my arms so they won't chafe, but Saturday was not that day - ouch.  Perils of being a sweaty runner, what can I say?

Our route had several hills toward the end, and guess who was cussing the last one?  Yeah, that would be me...despite doing our "choppie" hill technique, I was just ready to be on flat land.  Loretta had a great run, which was so nice to see - she's back to 100% and it's showing in how well she's getting through these miles.

Afterward, breakfast at Blue Baker, where I couldn't resist taking this picture of CC with two cinnamon twists:
Now THAT'S what I call refueling!!  Nah, they weren't all for her...but it made for a good picture.

We were given a chocolate chip pumpkin cookie by one of the bakers, which was so nice.  I liked the pumpkin part of it, but wasn't a fan of having chocolate chips with it.  Still, it's really fun to get treats like that so often!

********************

I know I shouldn't start out a sentence like this, but compared to other runners (yeah yeah, I know...don't compare your efforts to anyone else), my training mileage isn't high - except for me, it is.  I'm running four times a week and have been since July, and while the previous two months have been in the mid 50s for mileage totals, this month is looking to be more like somewhere in the high 70s.  That's a lot for me!  I can see it in my legs - while they are still beefy and always will be, they are definitely looking more toned and firmer.

KNOCK ON WOOD, I'm still doing well in terms of injuries.  Yes, I have some minor aches and pains, but nothing terrible, and it's been nothing like the previous couple of training seasons, so I'll happily take this.  I think using my BFF Buffer to loosen up my knotted calves has helped tremendously, plus running at an easier pace for my longer runs seems to be putting less stress on my body.  The long and short of it is that I'm still running, which is all I want to be able to do.  My fingers are crossed that this continues!

  1. Congrats on your good running season! With your gradual build up of mileage and not pushing upping the pace along with using your buffer if you keep doing these things I think you will be good to go for the whole season. Relax some between runs and enjoy your adventurous running life!

  2. I think you found what works perfectly for you when it comes to your mileage during a training period and the pace you run at. No injuries is perfect! It makes running so much more fun. I would keep doing what you are doing because it works.

  4. Every time you mention or post a picture of those cinnamon twists my mouth waters - I love all things cinnamon! And that's a lot of miles for anyone, not just you! Knock on wood you continue to be a healthy runner, that's all that matters in the long run :D

  5. Yay on the run! I am not a big fan of chocolate and pumpkin together. They just seem like separate foods that should never mix.

  7. Nice job on that 8 miler!

My son made pumpkin muffins this week and I told him to put chocolate chips in the batter. He didn't. But the muffins were still tasty...

  8. Mmmm. I like chocolate in pumpkin things. Chocolate in ALL the things :) But cinnamon twists are the best. Oh, ahem. I guess this was a blog about workouts, not about food :) Great job on doing more than you were required to, and I am THRILLED that you are having an injury free season!

  9. Yay! That is so awesome that you are injury free and are able to ramp up the mileage, too! LOL about beefy legs... yeah, I have very strong calves, too and don't think I will ever have definition there (um, not that I've really made an effort, lol)!

  10. 8 miles is definitely a big deal (even if it is the same distance you have been doing). Keep it up! Yay for Loretta being back 100 percent!

  11. It doesn't matter how you're doing compared to other runners. You've found what works for you and that's all that matters. AND you're doing head and shoulders better than all the nonrunners! :)
