WWU - 7 Miles, 78 Degrees, 100% Humidity

The title says it all.  Not optimal conditions to run in, that's for dang sure.  But we did it.  CC and I ran without Loretta, who wasn't feeling well.  Now, I like running with CC just fine, and we had plenty to talk about, but I missed having Loretta there because I tend to focus on her and how she's doing during the run (also because she's my friend and I just like to spend time with her, period).  And while the warm morning combined with all the humidity (seriously, fog rolled in toward the latter half of the run...unfortunately, it wasn't a cool fog like you get in coastal areas - this was wet, hot fog and it felt as gross as it sounds) contributed toward making the run a challenge, I was also a little mentally challenged by my brain, who kept telling me how long 7 miles was to run.  I know, brain...I KNOW.

That said, once the run was over, and we went to Blue Baker, all of that quickly became a distant memory, because BABY!  Loretta's grandson Kyzer made an appearance, and I got a baby fix:

He is such a sweet little guy!  Very happy, didn't mind a stranger holding him, and oooh, his skin is just so soft!  I got to hold him for quite a while before handing him back to his Grandma.

We had a great time at Blue Baker, as usual - I just love all of our crazy/random post-run conversations.  We were once again spoiled by the staff:
Fudge brownie ends.  They gave us so many that we took the extras home for dessert.
Peanut butter chocolate chunk cookies - these were too small for them to sell, but certainly big enough for us to enjoy!

OK, I know this post is supposed to be a recap of my exercise for the week, but really, how much can I say about running at this point?  It's hot and humid, and I run.  Our Saturday morning visits to Blue Baker are not only fun, but also very interesting to see how they make their baked goods, so that's why I keep writing about them.  This week we stayed long enough to learn how their cinnamon rolls are made...and let's just say I understand why they are so freaking delicious - check out the amount of the cinnamon/sugar mixture that is put onto each one:
A large cupful of the mixture was scattered on the dough (this was cinnamon-raisin dough, which I've never had...a Sunday specialty, apparently).

The mixture was smoothed out over the dough, and then the baker rolled it up.
We were trying to guess if these would be cut into halves, or quarters.  They were put into loaf pans (for more rising, I guess?), so we still don't know.

The training continues this week - Jeff and I ran for 45 minutes on Monday, did hill repeats yesterday and have 40 minutes scheduled for tomorrow.  We are going rogue on Saturday and doing a race - we are supposed to run 8 miles, but I'm doing the 5K, while Jeff and most of the rest of our JFR Crew are doing the 10K of the Burning Pines race in Bastrop.  Why am I not doing the 10K, you might be wondering?  Because this course has some really wicked hills, and you know how I feel about hills.  A 5K's worth is just enough for me.

  1. Going to the Blue Baker sounds like the best part of that run. I think you are wise not to over push it this coming weekend. You'll be done long before your friends that are running the 10k. Ah baby love nothing quite like it. I can't wait to be a grandma someday but its gonna be a while I think.

Finally this week I will be casting on for "First Time Socks Top-Down Magic Loop Technique " pattern written by Pastiche Knitwear" wish me luck! I have been watching
video's on YouTube for the different knitting techniques that are new to me.

  2. Hot Fog???!!!!?? Seriously, there is such a thing? I KNEW there was a reason I never venture far from the coasts.

You are such a rockstar for running 7 miles in such horrific weather conditions, humidity is right up there with nausea in terms of the Miserableness Quotient. But glad it ended in a bakery run!

    1. I'd never heard of/experienced hot fog until Texas. It's as bad as it sounds!

  3. As soon as I saw the title I thought, "they ran in disgusting fog." Thank you for confirming lol!

I think a race in the midst of training is fantastic - and sometimes way better than slogging out a long run. Because you're going shorter - even though there are hills - you can push yourself to simulate the pain and agony of a longer distance - hahahaha. Running is so much fun!

  5. I, for one, LOVE the BB reports! And seeing the cinnamon roll process was interesting. Since I figured out how to make my mini-cinnamon muffins, and the piddly amount of sugar/splenda that I put inside. Well, it mostly makes me feel virtuous :) A little bit it makes me want a BB cinnamon roll. Without raisins :)

Anyway, on to the racing/running. I love that you are taking a mini-break from your long runs, and doing a 5K race this weekend. That is going to make you feel super speedy and great about yourself.

    1. We will have to split a cinnamon roll when you are here...sans raisins, of course. ;)

    1. I have to say, it's been really fun to watch the treats being made. We will not talk about the giant bowl of butter, though...;)

  7. I love watching bakers do their thing. We went to the King Arthur Flour headquarters a couple years ago and they have their big baking center like that with glass windows showing the different sections. One was bread baking, the other was pastry stuff. It was cool. Then I wanted to eat all the things.

  9. I don't mind you writing about Blue Baker at all. The only bad thing about is that I always have to clean my screen after reading because I'm drewling over all the good stuff :)

Have fun at Saturday's race, smart decision to do the 5K.

  10. Hot fog is what I think hot yoga classes must be like. I have no desire to experience either.

  11. My step-son loves all things cinnamon, so cinnamon rolls were on the rotation when he visited on the weekends. Yep, the secret is all the cinnamon sugar on the inside - you think its too much, but its so good!

  12. Yum yum! I always love your pics of the treats. It's a good reminder to not deprive myself. (Not that I do anyway). :-)
