Globe In Artisan Subscription Box Review!

It seems like I fell off the radar for being offered review and/or giveaway products for quite a while (and I'll be honest, it's not like I was putting any effort into seeking anything out), but recently I was offered a few interesting items, so here's the first one.

Today I'm reviewing the September Globe In Artisan subscription box.  I'm not all that into most subscription boxes, because I usually like to choose what I'm purchasing, but this one not only sounded interesting, it also benefits artisans and farmers from around the world.  Win-win, right?  This month's theme is Wellness, and here's what I received:
Box, with coffee mug for scale.
Handwoven basket, made in Oaxaca, Mexico by a 15-woman artisan weaving collective.
Blessing Bag, made by the young women of the ABAN Women's Empowerment Program in Accra, Ghana.  I love the fabric and the glass zipper pull.
Inside of the bag is really cool - it's lined with upcycled plastic water sachets, which are the city's only source of clean drinking water.
Eye Pillow, filled with lavender!  This smells sooooo good.  Made by the Shipibo and Yeni tribes in Eastern Peru; they use vegetable dyes to create the pattern on the fabric, and soak the cloth in special river mud to turn the brown tint black.
Baobab Super Fruit Powder.  This comes from Africa and is supposed to help increase your food's nutrient intake and flavor.  You can add it to smoothies, cereal, sauces, soups and baking.  I'll be honest - the smell does not make me want to add it to anything.  But then, I'm not the most adventurous eater...

There also was a $5 gift card for Watsi included, which is an organization that helps patients in low-income countries fund their medical care.  I went to the website to activate the gift card, and choose a patient to receive the donation.  Well, that was a challenge!  Everyone has a story and a need.  I finally chose a mother who had been suffering from gallstones for more than a year - yes, something I could relate to.  Globe In is donating 50% of their profits from this month's box to Watsi, which will help immensely, I'm sure.

You can also purchase other products from previous months - Globe In curates some really interesting items and it's neat to see products from around the world.

If you are interested in ordering a Globe In subscription for yourself or as a gift (this would be a neat birthday/holiday gift), I have a discount code for you!  Click here and enter the code JOURNEY  to receive 25% off of your first month's box with a 3- or 6-month subscription.

FTC Disclosure:  I was not financially compensated for this post. I received a sample for review purposes. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.

  1. Although it's great the money goes to a good cause, I wouldn't purchase it, lots of stuff in it I don't need.

I have bought a surprise box once too and was so disappointed with what was in it for the money I paid, was a one time thing.

  3. I love boxes like this because they are little surprises. Sort of like Forrest Gump LOL!

That is a good cause, too.

  4. I don't think I would purchase a box like this for myself but I think it might make a neat gift for someone because of the great story that it represents. I love that you got to donate to someone's health care.

  5. Ha, I had to laugh at Lori's comment - life is like a box of chocolates, you never know which one you are going to get!

I agree, it would be a different gift to give someone who either has everything or needs nothing - my Mom would love this and this month is her birthday! :D
