Wednesday Workout Update

Public Service Announcement:  When you drop the lid to your tube of Nuun into a glass of water, nothing happens.  After my very hot and humid 40 minute run last Thursday, I came home and made my usual glass of Nuun.  I actually stood there, staring at the glass of water, wondering why it wasn't fizzing up like usual:
For the record, the thing on the left is the lid; the thing on the right is what produces a fizzy electrolyte drink.  Duly noted...

When we finished that Thursday run, I got a couple of pictures of Cary's dog Abby (really it's spelled Abi but since I've spelled it wrong here so many times maybe I should just keep it up for continuity?).  She does the cutest thing where she gathers up her leash in her mouth if you let it drop:
OK.  I've got my leash and I'm by the car - let's go!

She's very responsible this way.  Such a cutie!

We had a surprise on our Saturday run, in the way of decent weather (for August) - it was 75 degrees when we started running, but the humidity was a low 65%!  Just for comparison, lately it's been 77 - 79 degrees, with humidity hovering around 94%.  Don't get me wrong, we were still sweating like crazy, but we weren't beat down by the weather.  Amazing how less humidity can make such a difference, even with warm temps.  We also discovered that our Dri Fit shirts (technical fabric) ACTUALLY DRIED as we hung around after the run.  Who knew?  Normally we stay wet, sweaty messes until we change.

As for the run itself, it went great, once I got my dang Garmin's intervals set correctly.  I wasn't quite awake before we started running, and realized as we were walking to the start that I hadn't changed my intervals to what Loretta wanted to run.  I thought I got it done, but once we started running, it became apparent that I hadn't.  We ended up stopping for a couple of minutes while I fiddled with the settings - no big deal in the grand scheme of five miles, really.  CC, Loretta and I did 1:30/1 intervals and had a good time - like I said, the pleasant weather helped tremendously.  I have to give Loretta props because it's been FOREVER since she's run five miles (eleven months, to be exact), and not only did she have a good run, but she had negative splits and her last mile was the fastest by far!

After the run, we had ice-cold watermelon while we listened to a clothing seminar.  Then our JFR Crew went to breakfast in downtown Bryan, where I had an orange oat waffle, fruit, and lots of coffee.  I tell you what, Saturday mornings just don't get much better than that - a good run followed by a good time spent with good friends.  Love it!

  1. Awwww Abby is too cute! I wish I would have learned Bella some tricks but she has such a will of her own that she refuses to do things my way LOL

I see you looking at that glass and looking and looking :) Could have totally happened to me.

  2. Happy to hear you got a less humid, good run in. Especially for Loretta because she needs to have some good ones to know that she is fully able to run.

Is that your favorite flavor of Nuun? Grape is mine!

    1. Oh heck yes, you know how having a successful long run is so motivating!

Strawberry Lemonade is my favorite - on ice! I haven't tried Grape as I usually don't like grape drinks. That one is Julia's favorite - maybe I'll have to give it a try...

  3. Too cool. I've never heard of Nuun. I don't think we have that around here :)

    1. I think it's nationwide - while you can get it at running stores, I actually buy mine at our local grocery store, in the same section where the Gatorade is!

  4. Food first! Was there oranges inside the waffle batter, or on top?

The picture of Abi by the car--it looks like there is another dog staring at her in the picture, trying to figure out what the heck she is doing!

Good that you had a relatively low humidity day. I had to look at what our humidity is. I know its usually relatively dry. This afternoon, when temps reach 91, the humidity is 26! Of course, our punishment for that nice weather is NO RAIN EVER :)

    1. Food first, of course! I could smell and lightly taste orange in the batter, plus there was a twisted slice on top. :)

Bella was staring at Abi - she is her cousin (Cary's sister's dog). Abi's brother, Koda, does the leash gathering thing, although not quite the entire leash.

Ack to the no rain ever, but the nice humidity levels make life pretty livable? :)

  5. What is Nuun? Electrolytes?

Humidity is crazy at how it makes you feel. I hate showeing when it is humid because you start sweating as soon as you step out of the shower. Ick.

    1. Yes, electrolytes, in a light, fizzy, no sugar drink tablet.

I have to try and cool down for a while after a sweaty humid run, or else I keep sweating throughout the shower and afterward - ick, indeed!

  7. Sounds like a wonderful Saturday! I sometimes still sweat after my shower, too, even if it's a super cold shower. Ugh.
