Friday Mishmash

Our movie theater had a screening of a Grease sing-a-long recently, so Cary, Andi and I had to go.  I thought I knew all the words by heart, but seeing them on screen?  Apparently I've misheard some of them all these years!  Any case, it was great fun and if you are a Grease fan, grab your friends and get thee to a sing-a-long!
I have my own private Grease sing-a-long in the car quite often...

We went out for sno-cones for the first time this year.  This stand makes the best sno-cones, but it's a little redneckish - it's located on the edge of a gas station parking lot, where you have a nice view of the highway:
Jeff insisted on dragging the chairs over by the Duchess.  It was a nice evening - very low humidity, and even though it was still 91 degrees, it didn't feel too bad in the shade.  Hey, anytime we're not running in the heat, it's fairly tolerable!

In knitting news, you'd think I have all the needle sizes necessary to make just about any project, but no.  I was lacking in the tiny sizes, or what I referred to as "toothpicks" in the past.  And since I'm obviously hooked on socks, I decided to go ahead and purchase all of the needle sizes I was missing.  Matching the yarn size to the needle size to how loosely (or in my case, how tightly) you knit makes a huge difference in the finished project.  Anyway, I bought most of what I needed at my not-so-local yarn shop (it's a 25 minute drive each way, so I don't go there often), but even they didn't have all the sizes I wanted, so I ordered some from Amazon.  Here's what arrived yesterday:
A 19x14x3 box, filled with lots of air bags...and one tiny pair of needles.  Sigh.  What makes this even more silly is that I checked the box for no rush shipping, which meant that this wasn't scheduled to arrive until 9/1 (but it arrived on 8/27).  Amazon, I don't get you!

Onto the fun stuff regarding knitting - the projects!  Here's my fifth pair of socks:
Yarn is Schoppel-Woole Ambiente Magic, colorway is 1284.  I'm making up a basic sock pattern to fit my foot - I knitted these toe-up, using a Turkish cast-on, with a Fish Lips Kiss Heel.
They match my shoes!
My ever-growing stack of hand-knitted socks.

Here's another pair that I've started:
Yarn is Knit Picks Felici, colorway is Gummy Bear.  I can't wait to get to the pattern - it starts once I've knitted the heel and is crazy fun!

Remember back when I used to knit all the hats, all the time?  Well, a hat occasion arose, and this was the result:
A baby bear hat!!!  So cute!  Yarn is Madelinetosh Vintage, colorway is Teddy Bear (OF COURSE), pattern is a basic baby hat, with ears added.  The baby's nickname is Bear, so I had to make this for him.  He was born earlier this month, and I knitted a 0 - 6 months size, so hopefully it will fit him through the winter.

We have 8 miles on tap tomorrow, with breakfast tacos at the park afterward.  I wonder if we'll be able to stand not going to Blue Baker anyway?  Hey, second breakfast of coffee and a cinnamon twist sounds pretty good, right?!

Have a great weekend!

  1. All of your socks are just beautiful....maybe you need to start an Etsy store :) The hat is super cute and especially because of his nick name! :)

    1. Thanks! I don't knit fast enough for an Etsy store - it's just a fun hobby for me. :)

  2. I laughed out loud at your redneck sno-cone stand. Sounds like something you see on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I get the hot but not humid too. I remember when we were in AZ for our Grand Canyon trip and it was literally 105 in Phoenix but we sat right right outside and had cocktails and appetizers at the hotel and there was no sweating. Amazing.

I think you should give Amazon packing feedback on that one. I do that sometimes when the package is ridiculous.

You've become quite the proflic knitter and that baby hat is adorable.

8 miles = all the breakfast you want!

  3. Socks and shoes! That is totally my style :D

Seriously, you do need to start an Etsy store. At least so you can keep making stuff and maybe at least get the materials paid for

    1. I'm going to look for another pair of shoes in a more neutral color to showcase my socks...that's totally normal, right? ;)

  4. Looks like you have caught the knitting socks addiction that seems to be going around online:) Right now at almost 2 years of knitting I am still on the knit big things like sweaters, baby blankets, hats, scarfs. You know I swore to myself I wouldn't knit any more blankets once I had 207 stiches on my circular but I am now on 2nd baby blanket this one pink for a girl. I have been thinking of trying to sell the yarn I bought when I first started to learn how to knit and using the proceeds to buy the yarn I like now if that makes sense.

Good luck on your 8 miler tomorrow! Enjoy your breakfast afterwards:)
    Have a great weekend.

    1. I sold some yarn on Ravelry recently - kind of put it up for sale as a lark, but it was stuff I'd purchased that I didn't end up liking...and someone else wanted it, so that worked out nicely. Give it a try!

    Love me some Grease!

  6. GREASE!!! Love it. I will have to look for a Grease station on Pandora!

Maybe the person packing the needles thought they were extra fragile because they were so tiny? Or maybe they thought they would be x-rayed and be deemed a weapon of mass destruction, and all the air bags would disguise them?

Socks are very addictive. You're not making me want to knit socks, but you are tempting me to knit a bit more. Love the baby bear hat!

And yes, after a taco, I ALWAYS want something sweet. I think a cinnamon twist sounds just right. Besides, think about how sad the baker will be when your gang doesn't show up. Its only the polite thing to do :)

    1. Hopefully a Grease song or two will come on the radio as we drive here from Houston and we can have our own sing-a-long! :)

LOL on the needle packing theory...

And yes, we have to return to BB or the baker will be worried about us!

  7. Now that is my favorite colorway you have used so far. Love the color and how it matches your shoes perfectly!! The bear hat is adorable. My daughter keeps bugging me to make her a fox hoodie/cowl. I have the pattern but just haven't began making it. I have so many other WIPs it is hard to begin another one.

  8. You are talented! My friend tried to teach me to knit once... let's just say it didn't work out :) I love colorful socks!

  9. Love Grease, every now and then it's on TV here and we both (yes R. likes it too, he hates Dirty Dancing on the other hand) can't resist watching it again. It never gets bored. You know my favorite song is "There are worst things I could do" because it's actually such a sad song in my opinion.

You can never have to many socks, I love yours they are so colorful. I always wear socks at home during Winter (hint hint, size 7)

  10. I love that you are hooked on socks!!! I should have made my new nephew a hat instead of this blanket that is TAKING ME FOREVER!!!

    A Grease sing-along sounds so fun! :)
