State of Shock

And happiness.  And excitement.  A bit giddy, to be honest.  All because of this:
That's right - it's my MINI COOPER!!!

It was finally time to retire our Explorer - at 13 years old, it was making funny noises, including an ominous "thunk" followed by a burning rubber smell about a month ago, and we were at the point of either needing to put in a good amount of money into it, and hope nothing else went awry, or bite the bullet and get a new car.  Of course you know getting a new car was fine with me, but we had to make sure we were ready to take on a car loan, because we've not had one for two years, and that was our fun money.  You can see what choice we made:
Me and the Duchess.

Not only did I get the car, but the dealership filled the boot (trunk) with all sorts of goodies, which I discovered when I opened it to put in the awesome lime green MINI bag that the manager gave me because the car took longer to come in than anticipated.  What a fun day this was - they made picking up my dream car really special!

Goodies:
MINI cooler, hat, coffee/insulated mugs, ice cube tray, Union Jack bag, and a cool bulldog, which Paco wants to steal and dismember but I have it stowed safely up high.
MINI bag, which is not all that small, but it's freaking awesome and will be great for my running gear.

I wanted this color combination - Electric Blue with white mirrors/roof, and I wanted heated seats.  There was ONE car in the country that fit that profile, and it was just off the boat, in Georgia.  Took quite a while to get to Texas but it was definitely worth the wait!

She came with a panoramic moonroof.  The day after I drove her home, I was sitting inside, fiddling with the radio stations and control panel, when Kip decided to be, well, Kip:
Why yes, that would be my dumb cat sitting on the moonroof.

Anyway, as you can imagine, I am beyond thrilled!  I really didn't think this was going to happen anytime in the near future, but it did and I am a driving fool now.  Although mostly I want to go to my friends houses, pull up in their driveways and just honk my horn, but I've resisted...so far.

So it's farewell to our Explorer - I've driven a Ford Explorer for 20 years, and I've driven this particular one for the last 13 years.  It was a good car and lasted a nice long time, and it served us well:
Good bye, Old Slidey.

  1. I absolutely love your car! The color is great. I showed it to R. when you posted it on FB and he loves it too. In fact he suggested I buy a mini too when I had to buy a new car. But I'm in love with Renault Twingo so that is why I bought the one I have. I don't think I mentioned it on the blog but instead of buying a second hand I decided to buy a new car with a car loan too.

I hope you have many happy years driving your new car. Enjoy it!

  3. Congrats on your new set of wheels! It's so cute and I LOVE the color! How cool that they gave you so many goodies too! I got a new car in August that didn't come with an adorable bull dog, sigh.

  5. I was wondering if you were driving it! Maybe its the best time of year to do it, with all the college kids gone for Christmas? Anyway, LOVE the color, LOVE the white mirrors and roof, I'm sure I would LOVE the heated seats :) And did those people know that lime green was a favorite of yours?

As long as you have to have a car payment, its great to have it on a car that you have wanted for so long. And so cool that you were willing to wait to get the EXACT model you wanted too!

  9. Nice! I'll be turning in my red MINI soon and exchanging it for a 4 door countryman... kinda funny though, my husband wants me to drive an SUV when the baby arrives. Kind of the reverse of what you just did, lol!

    1. I hear the Countryman is the SUV of MINI's - but hey, you'll have an adorable baby co-pilot, so that will add to the sweetness of your new car, right? :)
