Friday Mishmash

You know you've been exercising a lot when your laundry drying rack looks like this:
Not quite one week's worth of workout clothes.

You know you're getting up really early when you wear a new running skirt and don't notice that you forgot to remove the rather large tags until you take the skirt off to shower:
HOW did I miss this??

I got to spend some time this week with my favorite little guy, Davis.  He's grown so much!  We played outside, and while he didn't want to go in the swing, he wanted to push it:
Reminded me of just over a year ago, when he was so little in the swing:
They grow up too fast!

Davis loved playing with bubbles, and I was impressed that in the years since my kids were little, non-spill bubble containers have been invented.  Very clever!
OK yes, the wand is in his mouth...must be a pretty mild bubble solution?
Such a cutie!

I'm nearly finished with my Zuzu's Petals cowl, version 2.0.  I made some time this week for knitting and movie watching (Philomena, Blackfish), and have enjoyed both the yarn and the pattern so much that I'll probably make another one again.  However, it's been a couple weeks since I've knitted a hat, so I'd better get started on one before I go into complete withdrawal, haha.  Luckily I have a nice stash built up of yarn to choose from, so I can pick a pattern and get started quickly.

Tomorrow we run 4 miles.  Yesterday's run was really rough - it was hot and humid, at 6:00 a.m. - I'm talking 80 degrees and 94% humidity.  It was one of those runs where I questioned my sanity in choosing this sport.  And it looks like tomorrow's weather will pretty much be the same, so I'm mentally preparing for it.  Also hydrating like crazy.  This is all going to pay off in December and January, right?  RIGHT??

Have a great weekend!

  1. So funny that you didn't see that tag. You must have really been excited about getting out there and going for a run. Don't worry I think we've all done that with an item of clothing before.

I have been so backed up with my laundry lately that I just went and bought some new work out tanks!

    1. This is the first time ever that I have enough workout tops and bottoms (I was always short on the bottoms) to make it through a week of exercise without having to do laundry partway through. Glad I made the investment...I guess I figured I really DO exercise? LOL

  2. I am lazy. I put everything in the dryer. So far no problems.

    1. We've seen technical shirts ruined from the dryer, so we just hang everything to dry. Most of the year, they dry pretty quickly in our heat, too!

  3. Davis sure is a beautiful child. Aw.

Hahaha to the hang tag on the skirt! I wonder if anyone saw it & snapped your pic to put on Instagram. Maybe your top covered it. Too funny.

    Enjoy your weekend.

    1. My running buddies didn't notice the tag, so my shirt must have covered it. Plus it was dark...but I still felt like Minnie Pearl when I discovered it!

  4. LOL I'm forever finding tags too late. :)

    Have a great weekend, Shelley!

  5. Right around this time of year my motivation starts to wane a bit as I get up and start my exercise in the dark. To combat this, I try to lay out my gear the night before. Let's just say that getting dressed half asleep has made me run with my shorts inside out more than once LOL!

Wow on your humidity. We usually have that too but for some reason ours went away and we've had positively autumnal weather this week with our overnight lows about 58 degrees. But yes, if you can train in that crap, all ya'll should be speed demons in January.

    1. I do the same thing (set out my gear the night before) - my brain just is not fully engaged that early in the morning to remember everything otherwise. Jeff is usually the one who ends up with his shirts on inside-out...LOL!

  6. That is really a cute baby/kid. He looks like he has a perennial smile on his face.

Drying rack in laundry room--taking note!

Good on getting knitting time! Mustn't let those muscles atrophy with all this working out :) I need to check out that Zuzu's petals pattern! And now, for some reason, you made me want to spin up some yarn!!

    1. Davis really is a happy little guy and seems very content. Super fun to be around. :)

The drying rack has been great. Previously, we used to hang everything (on hangers) from a door frame...it was like walking through a curtain of clothes, so when I realized you could buy a drying rack for pretty cheap, we made room for it. :)

Spin some yarn and make Zuzu's Petals!!!

  7. I couldn't do it, week in and week out in that humidity. Good luck for 4 tomorrow!

    1. It's like that frog boiling thing...we don't notice that it's getting so bad until we're about to pass out. At least I made it to August this year before it getting so bad.

  8. Oh, I dislike hot humid weather so much. Good luck with your run. Davis is a real cutie!

  9. I totally relate to your drying rod issues! Summer's not so bad, because I hang them outside, but during the rainy season, I hang them in Buddy's room on his chin-up bar (might as well get SOME use out of it!). I am just in a quandry when he comes home for school breaks and I have to find other not-so-convenient places to air dry everything.

  10. I am seriously laughing at your drying rack and how organized it is. Mine is a clotheline in the spare bedroom and stuff gets flung over it and I pull workout clothes off as I need them :D

    1. Laughing, really? You've seen my closet pictures...would you expect anything less? ;)

  11. Yeah, a bottle of bubbled didn't last long with us back in the day.

Thanks for the link for the cooling towel - I've seen some people around here with them, but they don't run with them...mostly they use them afterward.

  12. I couldn't help but chuckle about wearing the tag and not noticing. Been there done that too!

  13. I am shocked: you didn't remove the tag? Did this really happen to you LOL you are one of the most organized people I know next to myself. I mean look at your drying rack.

Hopefully the weather wasn't too bad at yesterday's run and you did fine.
