Wednesday Workout Update

It feels like I'm immersed in all things exercise, between running, Planet Fitness, and having our running club start up again.  If I'm not actually doing a workout, I'm making arrangements for one - check out my phone alarms:

I usually workout at Planet Fitness five times a week; off days are always Saturday, and usually one other day during the week.  I know I've said it before, but I'm really loving the 30-minute circuit they have.  In my mind, that's all I have to do on any given day.  Of course, Julia and I always get some planks done when we go together, and often we'll go use other machines on the main floor, but it's a mental thing for me to know that the circuit is enough.  And as long as I'm willing to wake up early, I have people to run with, which makes it that much more enjoyable.  My schedule looks like this:

Monday - Run, then PF
Tuesday - Run, then PF
Wednesday - PF (we took out the long walk since we're running more now)
Thursday - Run, then PF
Friday - PF (or rest day, depends on how I'm feeling)
Saturday - Run
Sunday - PF

********************

Running club has been going for two weeks now - we had a great first day kickoff!  What a relief, especially from a bit of chaos last season, when the other running club in town decided to move up their start date by two weeks to compete with us (ridiculous, since they are a highly competitive group of runners and we are not, so we attract different members), plus they met at the same location as us!  This season, we started at "our" park instead of in front of the running store, and it was really, really nice.  I had registration helpers, in the form of Joni (who was co-organizer when I joined back in 2010), Pam (who is recovering from knee surgery caused by a snow skiing injury, not running), and Sadie, of course:
Poor Sadie - she didn't understand why she wasn't running with the group!

Our official team picture:
Julia, Jeff, me, Damien (also from our 2010 season, back to coach our marathon group) and Amy.

And it wouldn't be a running club post without a picture from Blue Baker:
After our second week of running club.  Jeff and I had boring multigrain bagels (there was a splurge with a side of strawberry cream cheese that we split), while Amy had that tempting blueberry scone (and bacon).  Another fun morning with my running club peeps!

  2. Hooray for running club! Also, I really like that you make yourself accountable to exercise by having partners. You know yourself well and it's good that you act on it. How long until the race? Are you guys doing an extra long training season like last time? (By extra long I mean more than 12-16 weeks.)

    1. USAFit traditionally does a 24 week training season - we're doing 23 weeks because I didn't want to start on the July 4th weekend. The first race is on December 14; the second race is January 18. So I figure the time between will go something like 3 miles, 7 miles, 10 miles, 5 miles, race...

  3. Yay for a running club! I am super impressed that you get up at 4:30 am to run. I never get up that early unless I have a flight to catch...lol

    1. Well, living in Texas means you have to run early to avoid the sun. The heat is still there, though. I wonder what it would be like to be a runner who lived in a different part of the country?

  4. Yeah, I am also impressed that you will get up that early to run. Plus, that resonated with me about the 30 minute circuit being 'all you have to do.' That's what I often tell my self at the gym--you just have to do 20 minutes of exercise. Once I get started, I usually do way more than that. But somehow, that 20 minute rule is a stress reliever. Totally mental.

The running club was very fortunate to get someone as organized as you to be their leader. It looks like you've got a good support team this year.

    1. Almost every morning when that alarm goes off, the first thing I think is "I'm going to take a nap later on" - LOL. I don't always, but much like knowing that all I have to do is the 30 minute circuit, having a possible nap is very motivating. ;)

  5. That's an impressive workout schedule! I should take you more as an example. But after a fall back I am walking more already now and ran yesterday and after my vacation it's over with the excuses.

So happy to see the running club again, you have such a nice group of people in your club. I love it. Have fun with all the training sessions.

    1. I'm definitely in the groove with exercise at the moment. Knowing how easily I can fall out of said groove, I'm going to go for it with gusto right now! :)
