Friday Mishmash

Last Sunday, Andi and I saw Dirty Dancing - yes, the film from 1987 - in our local theater.  She remembered it from her teenage years, while I didn't see it until at least a decade after it was first released (coincidentally I had my first child in 1987...guess I was a little busy).  Anyway, we thought it would be fun to see it on the big screen.  Well, it was fun, and we had a great time.  But, our *ahem* maturity came through several times as we watched - for instance, in the scenes when the resort staff were (dirty) dancing in their cabin.  Both Andi and I were wondering why they weren't at work...it wasn't like it was super late in the evening.  Did EVERYONE abandon their posts?  Of course I was mentally dissecting the oversized blue sweater that Baby was wearing, thinking "I could knit that"...but the final dance scene more than made up for the inane bits of the movie.  I'm hoping they'll show Grease soon - I'm sure my thoughts about that one haven't changed in, what...thirty-plus years, right?

Sit and Knit (and sometimes unknit) update:  So close.  So very, very close.  But this is the shawl that cannot be rushed.  Heck, even when I concentrate, I still end up having to remove rows and rows of stitches to fix a mistake, which is what I've had to do twice this week.  But I'm getting there:
Soon, my pretty...soon you will be finished, blocked, and beautiful!

Nothing else to report on the knitting front, although I've got lots of yarn wound and patterns printed out for some cute hats.  I'm ready to knit some things that will be completed in a shorter time frame - plus, not having a bunch of yarn sitting on my lap in this heat will be nice, too.

My brain is mush - I can't think of anything else to write about.  So, have a great weekend!  See you on Monday.

  1. That shawl IS beautiful. Can hardly wait to see it blocked!

I would go see Dirty Dancing again, but I would really love to see Grease in the theatre again!

  2. My girl friend and I went to Dirty Dancing's 25th Anniversary Party in Atlanta and Baby came on stage and spoke. The theatre was full of 'women of a certain age' and it was a blast with lots of audience participation.

  3. I have to ask if the movie price was that of a regular (new) movie? Sounds fun though - and I always love the line "nobody puts Baby in the corner!"

    Have a great weekend!

    1. It was regular price, but our local theater is really cheap. Matinees (which is what we went to) are $4.25.

  4. OMG, I over analyze movie and TV shows like that too! I'd love to watch a movie with you! Oh, and I can't believe it took you 10 years to see that movie! ( but I guess you have an excuse)

  7. LOL that you were checking out Baby's sweater! What size needles did you decide you'd need? Too funny :-)

    1. Big needles...which is why I could see the stitches so clearly! Probably size 11 or 13. ;)

  8. I saw Grease at my local theater just a couple of weeks ago and it was great!! The only bad thing is that it was a midnight movie - I'm way too old to stay out that late!! :) I would stay up for Dirty Dancing though - love that movie!

  10. I am the master plot hole finder in movies and it annoys the crap out of me because it is hard for me to just let the movie happen LOL!

I liked the music to Grease, but even when I saw it when I was pretty young - I was so, so annoyed that Sandy is the one that changed. Guess my feminist nature came out early ;)

  11. Your shawl is looking so pretty. It makes me want to start one. However, I need the needles that are on my mohair scarf. Gotta finish that first, and I'm soooo close.

  12. I love Dirty Dancing, it's my guilty pleasure (so is Grease). The final scene is so great (so is Grease when Sandy puts out her cigarette with her killer heels; my favorite of that movie). R. definitely hates Dirty Dancing so I can't watch when it's on with him but he loves Grease.

    Did I mention I like Grease :)

I never think about the things that aren't correct in a movie, I just go with the movie. R. on the other hand sometimes does and I have to remind him it's a movie and he just has to watch and don't think LOL.
