We went to Plano last weekend to visit our kids, since Austin was out.  Driving back after breakfast, I spied this license plate and had to get a picture - Fran, your people are in Texas:
And it looks like they're enjoying the weather, too!

On our way up to Plano, we stopped in Ft. Worth at what I lovingly refer to as "the mothership" - Madtosh Crafts, home of Madelinetosh yarn!  Jeff felt kind of bad that with missing our Austin trip, I wouldn't be getting my much-anticipated yarn store fix, so he offered this side trip, and OF COURSE I took him up on it!  Yarn, beautiful, beautiful yarn!!   I shopped for Amy (I had a list of her preferences) and myself, and let's just say that I am set for a while:
Left to right:  Grasshopper (in a lace weight - 950 yards!), Teddy Bear, Toast, Spectrum, Bloomsbury (baby boy hat?), Betty Draper's Blues.

All except for the Spectrum and Bloomsbury were the last of their dyelot and were 25% off...apparently this isn't a regular thing but I just lucked into a random sale.  I bought the browns because I want to make a cupcake hat one of these days and that would be the base, plus I think I could have fun making a baby cardigan (there's a pattern that looks like an old man's sweater, but in baby size - so cute).  Betty Draper's Blues is a really pretty color to have on hand, and the Grasshopper lace?  One of these days I'm going to make the Citron shawl and this yarn is perfect for it.  Nice to get it so cheap!

Speaking of knitting, I finished my latest hat!  The pattern is Weather the Weather, the yarn is Madelinetosh Vintage in Spectrum colorway, and the model is none other than Debby:
That's right, Debby is visiting for a few days!  We are having fun and keeping busy - more pictures will be coming on Monday.

More hat shots:
I love how the ribbed brim looks - instead of doing the standard "knit one, purl one" I knit through the back loops and it looks so crisp and tight.  The body of the hat is a bit unusual, too, with the garter stitch as the background, and the raised zig-zag pattern.
Top of the hat, showing the decrease pattern, which always look so interesting to me.

Sorry to keep this so brief, but I have sewing and knitting and chatting to do with Debby.  I'll leave you with one more picture - you can probably guess who is just about as happy to have her visiting as I am:
Paco says "Dis ladee know how to treat a dog right" - yep, having another dog lover in the house makes everything good in Paco's world.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Hi, you two!!! I'm sure you're having a great time. I'm so jealous! I love the hate, and I love the name of the yarn, Betty Draper's Blues :) Pretty sure she's taking a pill for that...

  2. Love the hat!! Love.

I thought maybe the driver of the convertible was from MY area originally--Amish area. Some are raised in Amish homes but don't join the church. (& perhaps retain a dutchy accent. Haha)

Auntie Anne of the pretzel fame is from PA. I think she and her husband both come from Amish background. They've sold their home & are moving to TX.

  5. Debby!!! :)

I love that hat, and I'm not really a knitted-hat-person (they make my head itchy!), but I would wear a hat like that. Very cool!! I love the zigzag!

  7. Love the yarn and the hat! I'm visiting our youngest daughter this weekend at Indiana University and plan on visiting the local craft shop for some yarn. It's been years since I've crocheted, but I want to make some baby blankets for any future grandbabies. The arthrtis in my hands is getting worse and I'm afraid if I wait until one of our daughters have a baby, I won't be able to hold a hook. I can always donate the blankets if there are no grandbabies.

    1. Good idea to get started now on the blankets, but I hope your arthritis doesn't stop you from doing what you want later on.

  8. Oh girls how much fun that you got together for a few days. I hope you had a great time together. And since Debby is a dog lover too, I totally understand that Paco was thrilled too.

Hmmm thought I would be able to stay undercover in my car but you spotted me :)

Lovely yarn you bought, can't wait to see what you made with it.
