Happy Birthday to my Dad!  Since I don't have a picture on hand of when he was a baby, I thought I'd show you the next best thing...one of him holding me as a baby:
Awww!  And yes, he was young when I was born!  This was in Honolulu, Hawaii - my Dad was in the Navy for four years and that's where he was stationed.

Speaking of babies, I've been in full-on baby mode when it comes to knitting.  As it turns out, one of my son's old college roommates (Other Sam; can you guess why I call him that?) and his wife just had their second baby, a girl.  So that peach sweater I was knitting became Baby Violet's sweater:
Purple buttons on the sweater for Baby Violet

Of course, I had to knit a hat to go with it:
I used a tiny bit of my Anzula yarn for the purple stripes, and purple tulle for the topper.
Am. Dying. Of. Cuteness.

And a coworker of our youngest had his first baby, another girl.  A hat was requested for a baby gift, so I used some of the yarn leftover from the baby sweater I made for my friend's newborn - this is Baby Olive's hat:
Poufy, pink, and just so darn cute!

Well, we're not headed to Austin this weekend.  Jeff's foot is still hurting him quite a bit, so I got him an appointment with my orthopedist.  The verdict?  Inflamed tendon - like, double the normal size.  He's in a aircast now, with orders to not run for another 6 - 8 weeks.  I'm glad it's not a stress fracture, but geez, this sounds just about as bad in terms of healing time.  I bought race insurance when I registered him for Austin, so I submitted a claim - not holding my breath that we'll get his registration fee back, but you never know.  He'll miss out on doing the Armadillo Dash half marathon on March 2 as well.  Bummer.  Hopefully he will heal quickly and not miss out entirely on running during the nicer spring weather that we should be having soon.

To distract himself from not running, Jeff has been getting into cooking.  He's always wanting the perfect pasta sauce, and no matter what I made apparently wasn't IT.  But one of his coworkers is a good cook and explained how to make THE SAUCE, so he came home with the ingredients the other evening and cooked...and it was good:
Gee, if I play my cards right I'll be able to stick with my not-cooking agenda, but still eat homemade meals!

Have a great weekend!

    1. Hey, I wasn't even in the kitchen when he was cooking! He asked for advice on cutting up the tomatoes and basil, but I really don't know what all he did...and it was nice! :)

  5. Your baby cardigan and hat are divine!! I love the puffy hat, the whole ensemble will make a great baby photo outfit! And I agree with Jill about an Etsy shop for your adorable cardigans and hats!!

Sorry to hear about Jeff's foot. Sometimes the inflammations and sprains take longer to recover from. But man does that pasta look good!!

  6. AIRCAST!!! Oh man, so sorry! Poor Jeff. I'm so bummed he doesn't get to do Austin again, since, you know, it was "our" race two years ago. So bummed.

  7. When I was fussing about having to wear a boot for my stress fractures my ortho said, "You runners are stubborn. The only way we can make you stop running - even with serious injury - is to cast you!" Guilty as charged. Sorry about Jeff's cast but...

OK next time I need a baby thing I'm hiring you to make a hat. So freaking adorable!!

    1. Our stubbornness is what keeps us running when it gets tough. Unfortunately, we aren't good at discerning what is tough and what is hurtful until it's too late. :(

  8. OMG, those hats are so cute!! You should really open an Etsy shop Shelley! They would fly off the shelves. I am with Helen, next time I need a baby gift I am ordering one of those hats.

Sorry about Jeff's foot, but better safe than sorry. Hooray for pasta! Looks delicious!

    1. I'll take your order, but I seriously doubt the general public would pay what I'd charge...which is why I haven't really looked into Etsy.

  9. How awesome are that sweater and hat! OMG it would almost be worth giving birth in order to have a small human to model them! Almost.... :)

  10. Thank you for making me a winner today, Shelley! Hopefully that will spill over to other areas of my life! And thank you for catching me before I sent my Healthy Heart pics to Lori a full week early :-(

Love the baby stuff!! We're in-between on grandchildren batches ( oldest is calling 4 just plenty, and Buddy & Princess had BETTER wait until after college!), but it doesn't stop me from totally wanting little baby stuff to hold and play with :-)

All my sympathies to Jeff and his injury. I have a runner friend who's doctor sounds like Helen's. He said "well I'm not going to bother to tell you not to run, because I know you will anyway, so just don't run down hill and only run on soft surfaces". We are a stubborn bunch!

    Enjoy the home-cooking, though!

  13. Aww, the picture of your dad holding you is just precious. I love your creations! I am stumbling along trying to learn to crochet. I am awful at it but getting faster at being awful. I cant get past about 5 rows because my loops get so darn small and tight. The pasta looks yummy!

  15. I absolutely love the baby vest and hat Shelley. It's so sweet and cute, I bet you make the mom very happy with this gift.

What a bummer for Jeff, wish him a speedy recovery, I'll keep my fingers crossed he will be able to run soon again.

But it's a bonus for you that he is more into cooking now he can't run. The pasta dish looks delicous.
