Friday Mishmash

I'm in All You magazine!  Just a little blurb, but it seeing my name (and picture!) in a magazine never fails to thrill me:

I think it's funny that my before and after pictures are both cropping out my youngest kid - first at high school graduation, and then at college graduation.

Wednesday was THE day.  Anchorman 2:  The Legend Continues came out!  Of course I saw it - my future second husband was starring in it!  Fun trivia:  Will Ferrell's three young sons are in the Sea World scene...so cute!
First showing of the day.  My verdict?  I loved it!  Very entertaining...but then, I loved the first movie, so it would be odd for me to not like this one as well.  It's set in the 1980s, and by the way, the clothing of the eighties?  So familiar.  If you are younger and see this movie, please know - the costume designers weren't exaggerating; this really is how people dressed back then.

I mentioned in Wednesday's post that we went to an Elf party last Friday - what a great theme for a party!  Our running buddy Stephanie hosted it, and she went all out:
A candy bar, complete with bags to make a take-home treat!
A snowflake-making station, which proved to be very popular with the adults.
Of course there was spaghetti, with candy, Pop Tarts and syrup for toppings, and we encouraged one guest to make a plate...AND eat it!
Stephanie and food-adventurer Lizzie.
Amy and her husband Andy posed with props...
While Phillip swiped Sarah's hat and looked eerily elfin!

Things got really crazy with the marshmallow contest - you had to stuff two at a time in your mouth and then say "Buddy the Elf" clearly.  I have to point out that the adults lasted longer than the kids on this one, and while Stephanie and I managed to cram a total of six marshmallows into our respective mouths, Phillip could have gone on indefinitely!
The best kind of silly fun!  Just don't do this the night before a race...apparently there are good carbs and bad carbs for fueling for a run.

Last week was full of parties - my knitting guild had a Christmas dinner, and several of us participated in a Secret Santa gift exchange.  This year, I had Cary for my Secret Santa, which made me very happy, as she's helped me so much with my knitting, so it was great fun to find fun things for her.  Part of the exchange is that you are to make something for your recipient, so I made Cary a hat - specifically, a Runner's Watchcap (that's the pattern name), only I altered it to include a ponytail hole!

Here's the hat:
This was knit using size two needles, or as I like to call them, "toothpicks"

Here's what I gave Cary:
Hat, project bag (that I sewed!), Madelinetosh yarn in Tart, stitch markers, lotion bar, tea, chocolates, GU, Starbucks gift card, and a little fox ornament - he's wearing a knitted outfit and no, I didn't make it (not that talented) - but the fox was the mascot of knit camp this year, and Cary was really involved so I figured she's like it.
Cary modeling the hat that night - and she also wore it to the St. Nick Fun Run race, with her hair in a ponytail, and looked super cute!

I received a bag of goodies from Cheryl, who is so nice - she babied me along last January when I was trying to knit that blasted sock...her patience was much appreciated, as is her gift - she spoiled me big time:
Lovely Malabrigo Silky Merino yarn, a pattern for a vest (designed by Amy Herzog) that I'd requested, Chiaogoo needles that I love, knitting accessories, dark chocolate, candy corn (I'd listed the four basic Elf food groups under food I like), a Mrs. Prindable's caramel apple (saving that to share when the kids come home this weekend), a bag that she croched to hold a cake of yarn, and a earwarmer headband that she knitted for me to wear when I run!

Have a great weekend - our kids are coming home and I can't wait!

  1. Hurray for returning children (and Mrs. Pindable's apples - YUM)! You got quite the haul there in your knitter bag - can't wait to see what you make with that beautiful wool.

    1. I'm thinking of a long, lightweight cowl with the yarn...decisions, decisions! Good kind of decisions to make, you know?

    1. Yes, they did...they actually have a person whose job is to verify all the stuff about me, separate from the writer and the editor. Behind the scenes was pretty interesting to me!

  3. What a fun idea for a party! That is SO awesome that you were featured in that magazine! Did you win a contest or something? I saw my picture in Runner's World this week and I was thrilled ( although my name wasn't mentioned and there was no blurb). Have a fantastic weekend!

    1. I did know - they started with the healthy food tip and then kept coming back asking more information. Very cool that you're in RW - where?

  4. That Elf party sounds like so much fun! Especially the snowflake station, what a cool idea!

I'm hoping to see the new Anchorman on Christmas (we usually go to a movie with my in-laws). I loved the first one and will watch it pretty much anytime it's on.

  6. Wow! You and your knitting buddies sure know how to give good presents!

Elf party = good clean fun!

Your ponytail hat pattern is great! That looks like a really good hat to run in--fits nice a snug so it won't blow off or anything.

CONGRATULATIONS on the magazine article! Good pics in there.

And, guess who might have to go see Anchorman 2 this weekend? Because her friend likes it. So it must be good! Even though I'd rather see the movie with my future FIRST husband (Tom Hanks in Saving Mr. Banks.)

    1. Go see both movies! I want to see Saving Mr. Banks as well.

Yes, our knitting ladies are good gifters. :) And that runner's ponytail hat? I was going to make another one for myself, but holy moly, that fine yarn and those tiny needles were a challenge. No wonder I like DK and bulky weight more!

  7. Another day, another magazine :) You rock!

I think a movie is in my future this weekend. I could use a little Ron Burgundy. Come to think of it, I could probably use a little Burgundy, too! LOL

Yay for the kids coming home! The house just feels right when they're there, I'm sure.
