Friday Mishmash

I knew silver polish worked, but honestly, I had no idea it WORKED:

Yeah...obviously I let things slide for quite a while.  I was pretty shocked to see that the silver polish made this tray look so nice again - I guess those butlers in Downton Abbey are on to something, what with the way they are always polishing the silver!

Reaching into the Wayback Machine for this shot (well, only a couple of months ago, but it feels like forever since we've shopped together):
I love that we're still at the point of convincing Theresa to try on a matching top with us...one of these days I know she's going to become too cool for that (rightly so, haha - but it never stops us!).  Weird angle - I think I was having a hard time with all those mirrors?  Any case, we ultimately decided that this top was a NO, but one of these days, we'll try on matching tops, really like them, and buy them.  Then negotiate which day is whose to wear it (because contrary to what is shown, we're really not that nerdy).

I'm going to milk this whole fiftieth birthday thing as long as people will let me...or indulge me, as in this case.  Debby, my knitting enabler, the one who started it all with me, sent me a gorgeous pair of socks for a belated birthday gift!  Knowing, as I do, how challenging it is to knit one sock, let alone TWO, I am not only very impressed but of course touched that she'd put so much effort into this gift:
Nighttime pic - the package was sitting on my doorstep when I came home from a coaches meeting Monday night.  Never mind that it was 1200 degrees outside - I HAD to try them on!
Daytime pic - and I swear, I didn't encourage Paco to get in the picture.  He just knew, KNEW, that his feet should be there!

Love them.  Thanks, Debby - I suspect these will be the only pair of handknit socks that I'll own for quite a while as I'm still slightly traumatized by the one attempt I made at knitting a sock.

Baby sweater update - it's almost finished!  I'd probably be done with it by now if I didn't keep stopping to marvel at how absolutely adorable it is...I just can't get over how something this cute has come from my hands:
This is the 12 month size - it takes one skein of yarn, plus a little from a second skein.  I'll have enough leftover to either make another sweater in a newborn size, or I could make a matching hat...hmmm, what to do, what to do.

Running club tomorrow -  we have 3 miles on the schedule, which will be the longest distance ever run for several of our new members.  I'm excited for them!  I'm also excited for me - I finally replaced my old running shoes with a new pair - same model, just an updated version:
Bright enough for you???  They actually had a pair in pink, but believe it or not, I liked this color better.  Plus I figure cars can't help but see me on the road when I wear them, right?  These are Brooks Glycerin 11s, in case you were wondering.

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Love that baby sweater and love those shoes. If only I was running... And yes you can make a sock if you can make that sweater.

    1. The sweater was much simpler than a sock...for real!

  3. See, Darlene confirmed it for me--you CAN make socks!

I used to have a ton of silver (silver-plate) from my dog showing days. Little by little it all went away. I just never used it, what with my very infrequent entertaining. And my lack of a butler to polish it. (Downton Abby, come back!)

I love that baby sweater so much! Must find a baby to knit for.

  4. Forgot to comment on NEW! SHOES!!! How fun. And yes, I would have asked, so thanks for telling me the brand. I can't believe you passed up pink, but I can see with your early morning runs that these will be very helpful.

  5. Yep, I have a silver plated fruit bowl in my kitchen - I never really notice how tarnished it is until I clean it!

And those socks are going to be great come winter! How thoughtful.

But I have to say, I am shocked, shocked you didn't get the pink shoes!!

    Have fun tomorrow!

    1. I know, it was bizarre to hear myself turning down the pink shoes. Was there a blip in the atmosphere, ya think? ;)

  6. I am in love with that baby sweater and if you don't knit a matching hat for it, well the world just won't be right at all. :)

I love those shoes!! I have purple Brooks - like, grape purple - my husband thinks they're atrocious but I love them! The older I get the more I'm attracted to crazy colorful shoes!!

  9. That baby sweater is adorable! Those socks look incredibly snuggly...so nice for a chilly night (which we won't have until October or November...damn Texas).

I despise cleaning silver...I can't stand that smell!! EW!

    1. Tell the truth - we'll have one cold night in November. Then a heat wave...I might be regularly wearing the socks in February. Ahh, Texas.
