Friday Mishmash

Last Saturday morning I came to a sad realization:  I get the best sleep of the night in the nine minutes after I hit my snooze alarm.  Seriously, I'm usually tossing and turning, but once the alarm goes off and I hit snooze?  I am OUT.  I should set my alarm for 2:00 am and just click it off - maybe I'll sleep like a log for the rest of the night?  One can dream...or not, as in my case.

I've been making good progress on my baby sweater - and I have to say, I'm getting hooked on knitting for tiny people.  Not only is their clothing so cute - ooh, a miniature sweater - but it knits up so much faster, too!  Talk about (almost) instant gratification...I couldn't believe when I finished the cap sleeves and started knitting the body of the sweater - it looks like a real garment already!

 Front...
 and back.

I need to find some sweet buttons for it - I bought a set of cute daisy buttons but A) they are too big for the buttonholes; and B) I think the yarn will end up getting caught in the petals.  Back to the store for round two on my button search.

Speaking of babies, I got to spend some time with baby Davis on Monday!  He's such a fun little guy.  Still drooling like a champ, which is why he's not wearing a shirt - but he has four teeth to show for all of the drool - go Davis!
Playing with his little music maker - he loves that toy and no matter where it ended up, he kept going back to that one.  Also, that face - he's a charmer!
He was babbling away, and I noticed that when he said "Dada" he would wave - so I asked him "Dada?" and he started waving like crazy.  Awww!  He knows to wave when his daddy goes to work - I love it!

Paco's birthday was yesterday - while we don't know exactly when he was born since we got him from the animal shelter, our vet guesstimated, based on his teeth and size at the time, that he was born around the beginning of July, so we picked the 4th - somewhat easy to remember.  He's seven now, or in dog years, almost as old as me!  We gave him some watermelon for a treat - really not much of a difference from any other day when watermelon is in the house, because he always gets some - but he loves it.  Besides, I didn't have time to bake him a cake. ;)
Yes, this dog loves watermelon!

Here's some pictures from the first month we had him (we got him the end of November in 2006):
First day home - he was so little!  He weighed just 15 pounds (now he weighs 28 pounds).
Not really supposed to be on the bed back then, but he looked like he was trying to blend in with the pillows, so naturally I took a picture and let him stay.
Look closely - see the glowing eyes under the chair?  That's Henry...and a satisfied Paco leaving the room - he'd chased Henners away from the Christmas presents.  Somehow Paco knew there was a gift under the tree for him, and he didn't want old Henry getting NEAR it!
"Take my pikture, Mom.  I smile."

Paco's first selfie.  Well, selfie if he could manage to work the camera. This was when I knew that Paco thought he was a star - my mom had sent me a box of random things from my grandmother's estate, and among everything was her digital camera.  I took it out of the box, turned it on, and Paco jumped on the bed (oddly unmade for once, I swear)(OK, maybe twice, haha) and posed.  I've created a monster:
"Not monster.  Just incredibly photogenic.  Like dat runner guy!"
...I have a lot of pictures just like this - he LOVES the camera!

Ah Paco.  Such a ham.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Sophie woke me up extra early so I could be the first to comment on your blog! What a fun post. There's a baby theme running through it!

That baby sweater is DARLING. Believe it or not, I haven't knit any baby stuff. My nieces were all little girls by the time I started knitting. And I've made quilts for some of the next generation.

Paco is indeed the world's most photogenic male dog. (there, I'm safe from Sophie's wrath by putting 'male' in there.) I got a watermelon yesterday because of you. I'll have to see if Sophie likes it as good as baby carrots.

  2. How cute is that little sweater! My grandma used to knit stuff for me for my dolls and that's what it reminds me of. Speaking of cute, Paco is so sweet - Happy birthday beautiful!!

    1. My grandma used to crochet outfits for my Barbie dolls - I think I still have a poncho and wrap skirt, now that I think about it! I'll have to dig out my Barbies and check. :)

  3. AWW...Happy Birthday to sweet Paco! Love the photos, especially the one with the watermelon in his mouth! He's a character!!! Will he be modeling the sweater when it's done like he models the scarves? It is gorgeous, and what a beautiful keepsake for the baby's family!! Have a good Friday Shelley!

    1. This sweater is one project Paco will not be modeling! He's more of a hipster scarf dog, anyway. ;)

  4. Hey Shelley! Just catching up after getting home from vacation, from a place that had no internet connection! It was actually nice to unwind though!

I love that you like knitting for tiny people - I would too because the project does go faster!

And happy birthday to Paco! Just a little thing though, our neighbors dog loved watermelon too - especially the rind. He was a Jack Russell and he started not feeling well - turns out he didn't chew the rind all the way and it got stuck in his digestive track and he ended up passing away from it - just a word of warning - don't want anything to happen to Paco!!

    Enjoy your weekend!

    1. That was the first time we gave him watermelon with the rind attached, and he did ingest some before I could stop him...he immediately started drooling and hacked that part back up, so yes, good warning on that for sure! Normally we just give him small pieces but tried to make it look good for his birthday. First and last time for that.

  10. Oh how much I love this post. I can't get enough of Paco, he's the best dog after Bella. He's fun, sweet and a great photo model. The one with the beautiful blue eyes is my favorite. Here's to at least 7 more happy years with this great dog.

And a note from Bella: happy belated birthday Paco. If only we could have a play date once, we would have so much fun.
