Friday Mishmash

The winners of the Bella Sun Luci sun-dried tomato packs are:

Congratulations!  Please send me an email (40somethingsjourney@gmail.com) with your mailing info so I can give it to my contact.  If I don't hear from you within a week, I'll have to choose another winner.

I have a question for those of you who wear contacts - do you change your case every month?  I was looking online for a travel case (to carry in my purse - I don't know why, it just seems like I should do that) and read that you are supposed to toss the cases after 30 days.  Really?  I rinse mine out in hot water every morning, but the case seems perfectly fine...is this a for real thing, or just something that the case manufacturers cooked up to sell more cases?

Speaking of contacts, I'm still reaching for my glasses after I've put on my make up.  Except that I've already put my contacts in.  Or, I'll go to push up my glasses on my face...except that I'm not wearing them, I'm wearing the contacts!  After a month of wearing them, it's funny that I'm still on autopilot when it comes to glasses.

Have you heard of Bored Shorts TV?  It's on You Tube and it's a series of funny videos done by adults - mostly brothers, plus a few friends - who videotape their children telling stories, and then act them out while lip-syncing the kid's voices.  They are charming, clean and so funny, and it's been a nice distraction when all of the horrible news lately gets to be too much.  Here are a couple of my favorites - actually, I had a hard time choosing, as I like them all:

Salesman
  Healthy Food
OK, one more...Driver's Ed:

My friend Terry popped into town yesterday and treated me to a mani/pedi:
I was taking a picture of our bright toes when I realized she was taking a picture of me taking a picture...so of course I had to take a picture of her taking a picture.  We entertain ourselves, yes we do!

Another race on tap for tomorrow, plus I have plans (big plans!) to do a massive closet clean-out in both of our guest room closets.  Jeff will be helping with this project, and while he doesn't know it yet, I'm sure he'll be super-thrilled.  Or not...

Have a great weekend!

  1. I wear the contacts now that are daily. You throw them away. Gl on your race and the cleaning.

  2. OMGOSH, the video I watched was hilarious. I might not get any work done today if they have a lot of those videos!

I used to do all those things when I wore contacts. And I never heard about throwing away your contact case. However, I was reading about "cat acne" and they said that bacteria would stay on plastic, and that is how cats got cat acne, so it was better to use glass or metal bowls to feed your cat. Is that helpful?

    1. Cat acne? Interesting. So my method of using the same plastic dish for years, while having Paco do the official lick-washing afterward, might not be good for the animals? Geez, everyone is getting to be SO high-maintenance! ;)

    2. LOL I'll pass that tip on to my BF, whose cat had the acne. She doesn't have a dog. I'll recommend that as a cure. Its probably cheaper than the medicine she's getting.

And yeah. For years I've figured that the dogs lick their bowls clean. Good enough.

    3. So what I'm hearing is that we need to find your BF a dog to help cure her cat's acne? We can totally do that!!! :)

  3. I've noticed that a lot of saline solutions include a new case in the box now. I used to keep my cases FOR-EV-ER but I cleaned them regularly. It's probably not a bad idea to get a new case monthly, but I've never really thought about it before (and I've been wearing contacts for almost 30 years - yikes!).

I love those Bored Shorts videos - those guys are HILARIOUS!!

    1. Well, if your eyes are still ok after nearly 30 years of contacts/not replacing the cases, I think I'm going to go with that.

  4. It always makes me laugh when people take pictures of someone taking pictures!
I need a pedi in the worst way!!

  5. I went to disposable contact lenses years ago and have never looked back. A box of 45 pairs of contacts costs me $60 bucks, and I love that every day I get fresh lenses! I am really blind as a bat without them.

I'll have to check out those videos - Happy Friday!

  6. Wait - you are supposed to change your lens case every month? Oooops. I have been wearing contacts for 25 years and have never done that. About every 6 months when I order lenses, I pitch the old case and use the new free one sent with 1-800-contacts.

  7. Oh Shelley, you crack me up. "Jeff doesn't know he's involved in the project yet"! HA!!! Have a great race tomorrow!

  8. Like you, I rinse my case with hot water daily. I'm trying to toss the case more often now though, especially since I seem to get a new one each time I buy saline.

A closet cleaning weekend is what I need. Good luck with your race.

  9. I want a pedi!!!!

    Love the videos!!
Ive worn contacts for 20+ years and I only change cases when a new one comes with my new contacts, or if I get one with the solution.

  10. I want to say I read somewhere that you should change out the case when you change to a new set of contacts. Obviously, I must have read this before the advent of dailies. :) I just wash mine periodically.

  11. I recently learned that you are supposed to change your contact lens about every two months. I have never done that before. I always just cleaned it out well and let it dry every day while I wore them. I guess those sneaky little bacteria can be extra dangerous to eyes

  12. I need a pedi too but one of the things I had to let go when making budget plans was the pedi. I had to choose between a facial and my feet and the face won because of all the sweating it needs the most care. I do the pedi myself now but of course it's not as good as when someone else does it.

Hope your race went well yesterday.
