Friday Mishmash - Dogs and Babies

Paco loved our cool weather earlier in the week (it's warmed back up again, dangit) - he's not normally an under-the-blankets snuggler, but he made an exception, and stayed there all morning:
Sooooo sleepy!  And you can see how red his skin is from allergies, poor pup.

Paco also enjoyed Halloween - well, he was very interested in the giant bowl of candy when I set it out:
I'm sorry that he's blurry, but it cracks me up that you can just see his pink tongue licking his chops - like I'd ever give him candy!

Then he went on the lookout for the trick-or-treaters - it was really too early, but he was on standby:
 They're coming, I know it...

Unfortunately, Paco is afraid of the kids in costumes, and they don't particularly like being barked at by a frightened dog, so he spent Halloween evening locked in his crate.  But it was just for a few hours - by 8:45 the candy bowl was empty and life was back to normal.

I got my baby fix this week, when I visited my friend/former running club coach, Joni, and her new sweet boy, Davis!  He's three and a half weeks old in these pictures, and so tiny!  I could hold babies forever.
Davis is modeling the hat I made for him - whew, it fits!

Sit and Knit update:  I was making good progress on my sweater, but set it aside for a few days because Sam requested a baby hat for his old college roommate's daughter, who will be turning one year old in a couple of weeks.  The hat seemed so big compared to most of the other ones I've made, but the gauge is correct for her size, so I'm going with that and hoping that it will fit.

Here's the hat:
I had just enough yarn to make the bigger hat - for a while, I was thinking I might have to unravel the smaller hat to finish it, but I made it!  The top right picture shows the decrease pattern - I'm always still amazed that it comes out right.  The bottom right picture shows the bigger hat with the newborn-sized hat - I love how the striping came out so differently on them!

Here's the sweater:
This is a top-down pattern, and I have one more section of the ribbing to complete before I create the sleeves (it's short-sleeved) and then knit the body.  So far, so good with it!

Fairly quiet week around here - I had my annual mammogram on Wednesday and forgot to treat myself, like I usually do, to some sort of ice cream/sorbet/frozen yogurt.  I know - what is wrong with me?!?  Luckily, I made up for that omission by indulging in some Halloween candy, but honestly, it wasn't that great so I didn't go overboard.  Now, if I handed out the good stuff, there might have been more of an issue - but that's why I don't hand out my favorite candy...self preservation.

Alright, another 11 miler is on tap for tomorrow.  Too bad the weather has warmed back up - we'll be in the low 60s for the run...but that's OK.  I'm going to wear my new pink Newtons and plan on zipping through it!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Oh my, Paco does my heart melt. What a treat to see those lovely pics of him on a Friday while I'm waiting for my weekend to start.

The hat looks adorable on the baby. It won't be long before you can open your own business where you knit on order and get paid for it.

Good luck on the run tomorrow but you will be fine. No, you will be AWESOME!

    1. Thanks, Fran - I'll chant "AWESOME" tomorrow when I'm running, just to remind myself. :)

  2. Paco! Love him!

Awww there's nothing like a new baby smell is there? You are doing a great job all around with the hats.

Even better job with the candy - you go girl.

  3. Paco cracks me up!

You hair is so long! You post so many pictures with running with your hair pulled back that I didn't realize how long it is. Pretty and wavy, too.

  4. Awww Paco! One of my dogs keeps snuggling under the blankets in our guest room, which cracks me up. I love Paco looking out for the trick-or-treaters too :)

Enjoy your run tomorrow! It's been 35 in the mornings here, so I'd LOVE some 60 degree weather again.

  5. Wow, I didn't even notice until Lori commented on it--your hair is long right now! I like it.

Mr. Paco. What a gentleman with the candy. Can you imagine if I set a bowl out in this house? Noah would try to nonchalantly grab a mouthful, Sophie would go nuts, because she wouldn't be sure whether she should continue to keep her eagle eye on the candy or bark and run around to tell on Noah. Fortunately we don't get trick or treaters back here in the woods.

The hats are so pretty. The yarns they have nowadays are really beautiful. I love your choices for baby hats. That baby really is cute in the hat you knit for him.

    1. Thanks - I'm loving my longer hair, too. :)

Paco is good with food, but if one of the cats had gotten near the bowl of candy, he would have gone all Sophie on them!

And I love holding babies too - and like that I can just hand them back when they get fussy!

  7. I love the color of your walls!!!! (I know thats not the point of your post!) BUT! I love the color. Is it paint or wallpaper?

    1. Thank you - it's wallpaper, textured at that. And it will probably make you sad to learn that after 12 1/2 years with it, we're planning on tearing it down soon. Going to a more neutral paint color.
