Wednesday Workout...Update?

When I am on a roll with my exercise, be it group workouts, running, swimming, or even just going for a bike ride every evening, I'm on autopilot.  I don't have to think about it; I just automatically get up, get dressed and go.  And I like it that way.  Makes for much less mental fatigue, and I prefer that over being at the point where it's not the actual fatigue from exercise that is stopping me, but simply my own mind.

As you might have guessed, I'm not on autopilot this week.  I could cut myself some slack, because we traveled over the weekend, and Monday was a holiday, with Jeff being home, where we he built our new wall system.  I could have gone to the pool...but I didn't.  I could have gone out for a long walk...but I didn't.  I did get a bunch of laundry done and the house put back in order now that Max has gone back to Denton, but let's face it, if doing chores worked as exercise, I never would have been overweight, right?

See, this is why I hate to get out of my routine.  It's so hard to get back into it!  And the thing is?  I actually like it when I'm in the middle of my workout, whatever it is (ok, not so much with the burpees, but I don't have to do those anymore).  It's just the beginning that is such a mental challenge to me.  But this ends now.  Next Wednesday, I want to post a picture of my neglected training journal with workouts actually filled in.  Because I like to exercise.  I do, I really do!  I just haven't been acting like it.

  1. I was reminded of the "it takes 21 days to break a habit" by an article in Fitness Magazine this or last month and I decided to use it for exercise because I want to be on autopilot too, so far I'm 10 days on the so called workout track.

Everything in this post is screaming ME. It all sounds so familiar, I'm the same like you in this.

When I opened the post by the way I was laughing again because of the title :)

And about Texas? It's going on my places to visit some day. Not only for your beautiful state but also and mostly for that beautiful person that lives there. Maybe you know her? Her name is Shelley B.

  2. OK then, NO EXCUSES. I think you should have posted a photo of the empty log so that reality could smack you in the face. Just do it Shelley, you know you can. Do I need to start calling you every morning?

  4. You can do it Shelley! Once you get back into the routine, you'll be all good :)

  5. You said it the best - if chores worked as exercise, they I wouldn't be overweight in the first place. I feel like that ALL THE TIME. You know you'll get back into it, esp. because you have literally hundreds of people rooting for you!

  6. I feel like I have been "off" with my exercise since I was off work for the Christmas holidays. I have still gotten in plenty of great workouts, but it hasn't been "auto-pilot" for me. I literally have to talk myself in to each workout.UGH

  7. You can definitely get back on track! It's hard but maybe if you make an appointment daily for yourself it will help keep you accountable?

  8. I agree, getting out of routine stinks. That happened to me this weekend. Then I realized the reason for getting out of sync was worth it. My sister's family was here, and there's no way I was doing yoga in front of anybody (plus, they wouldn't give me the TV anyway).

  9. Auto-pilot?? Man I wish it was that easy again. It's hard to get back in the groove. In fact I think I will get ready to walk right now. Getting caught up with you. Looks like you've been busy with your boys. Good for you!

  10. Ohhh, I know exactly what you mean. And after I make myself work out, I am so PROUD! And feel so good! And so glad I did it! And I wonder why I 'fought' it so. Kenlie over at Alltheweigh.com says the same thing. Guess it's pretty common. I just have to remember how great I feel after, & how proud I am of myself. It IS in the plan for today. It will be Jillian's Shred dvd. I haven't done too much cardio lately, so I will do my best.

So proud of you. I liked the comment about housework, bc sometimes I battle with my brain about that. Struggling to find time to complete housework AND a workout, I try to fool myself into thinking they could be one & the same. Not.

Have a splendid rest o' the week, dahling. Chrissy

  11. Oh routine, how I love thee.

Sometimes routine works against me. Like when I 'just can't get to the gym.' That quickly becomes the new routine. Not that that's ever happened to me. Just sayin'.

Fortunately I have an appointment with the lawyer today. The lawyer is just around the corner from the gym.

  12. I feel the same way. I HATE missing workouts. Especially TKD. For one thing it seems really HARD when you've been away for a while and for the other It is just plain easy not to do it. I was just trying to figure out how I was going to get back to running. There's so much I'd like to do in my workouts, but WHEN?? Sigh.....wanting to exercise TOO much is never a problem I thought I'd have.

  13. You can do it Shelley!

I've got a new routine which has been helping. I am working out between 8:30 and 9:30 at night. My daughter goes to sleep at 8:30, I go to the basement to do a work out video or run around my block and my sons don't go to bed until 10 - so I have that whole time to myself, no one needs me, I can just do my thing. I hope I can keep it up!

  14. I ♥ routine. I love it wholeheartedly, because it is mine and it is kind to me. ;)

  15. You are lucky if you have that kind of an autopilot. Mine seems to like to buzz low near couches and the refrigerator.

  16. I hear ya, Shelley. My workouts have been a little half-assed lately. Which is not good for my full ass. ;) Let's kick each other's, shall we??

  17. Hi there,

Just found your blog tonight. I wrote this exact same post yesterday. I'm just focusing on the food right now (that's my excuse) and getting that down pat. "THEN" I'll introduce the workouts. One thing at a time....:P

Nice to find you - keep up the good work.
Come visit my sister and I - we are two sisters 44 and 50 on a very similar journey :)

  18. Get back into the habit ASAP! You don't want the non-habit to become the habit, right?

  19. OH SHELLEY
I love your words at the end because they are really what I needed to hear this morning.
not with exercise but something else.

I LOVE IT. I REALLY DO. I JUST HAVE NOT BEEN ACTING LIKE IT.

    xo

  20. Why is it so hard to start a good habit (exercise) but so east to start a bad habit (sitting on the couch eating bon bons and watching the home shopping channel. Not that I'm doing that)?!
Like Nike says, Just Do It! :-)

  21. OMG, totally know what you are saying about getting out of a routine - although I have managed to do okay on food this week (okay - one tiny binge) and obviously not getting into the gym because of Tony doesn't help.

Hang in there - I know you'll get back in the saddle!

  22. I'm with you Shelley! It's so hard to get back into it if you stop!! I took about a week off after Christmas and it felt like I was starting over again. That being said it's not really like starting at the beginning because I think your muscles remember. Good for you for owning up to it and having a plan! Can't wait to see your training journal next week ;-)

  23. I think it's great that you realize you have a routine. And knowing you, you will be back in it in no time. Probably faster than I will! :)
