Nike+ Sportsband Giveaway

This isn't my normal giveaway, in that usually a company provides something for me to review and an extra for a giveaway...this is for my Nike+ Sportsband!

As most of you know, I've gotten into running. And while I wouldn't exactly call it my passion, I do like it (most of the time) and I really love racing (except when I'm last...or hit the wall at mile .10, lol). Plus, weight has been dropping off my body much easier now that I'm running - woohoo! All in all, it's been really neat to discover that I can, in fact, run. And I am a runner! So much so that I asked for (and received) lots of great running accessories for my birthday earlier this month...and now that I have a Garmin (aka Ricky Bobby), I don't need my Nike+. This was a great tool for me - I could go for a run without having to map it out beforehand (darn near impossible when you run through parks, which is mostly where I run), and it would tell me my mileage as I ran. Plus it gave me an average pace, which was great to keep track of as I got a little faster. And it is accurate, too - when I went for my first run with Ricky Bobby, I wore the Nike+ and it was dead on...very cool.

I don't need it anymore, and in the interest of paying it forward, I'm offering it to another newbie runner. You will receive, from me, my cute pink/light gray Sportsband (complete with dried sweat my newbie running juju), shoe sensor, and the LaceLid that I bought to hold the sensor, as I don't have Nike shoes.

Please enter only if you really would use this...not just to win something. I'm sure I'll have more fun giveaways in the future for that purpose - I know I love to win things, which is why I like to offer them.

To enter, tell me about your running and why you need this - just a couple of sentences. Depending on how many entries I get, I'll probably narrow down my top five or ten and then let the random number generator choose, because I'm sure at that point I will want to pick everyone and obviously that won't be possible.

I'll take entries until Thursday night (July 1) and post the winner on Friday, interwebs-willing. Good luck!

  2. I need to shake things up. I would love a toy to fire me up. Not very creative. It's early.

  3. Oh I would love to be entered into your contest. I'm a newbie runner, who definitely NEEDS inspiration and motivation (which you have certainly provided many days). I am sooo inspired by your dedication. I have 30# to lose and it seems like it might as well be 1000...the weight seems to be stuck to me. I read your blog regularly and thank you for being so open and honest about your journey. I am sure whoever "wins" your Nike band will be inspired by your Juju that comes along with it :)

  4. Just this weekend I went from running 2 squares on the sidewalk to a full block...Now, that is a newbie runner! I won a heart monitor and distance tracker awhile back but find I forget to go through all the motions to put it on, so something for my wrist seems a little easier.

  5. I'm not a runner...but a walker....a "fast as I can" walker. If this would be good for a walker, too...then, I would LOVE to win!!! I would love to become a runner...is that possible to start at 55?!?!? Thanks for considering me in your give-a-way! (and I don't mind the sweat..ha! ha!)

  6. Hello! This is sweet!

I'm trying *really* hard to become a runner.. like I said in an earlier comment though, it's proving to be a bigger challenge than I ever imagined (and not that I imagined it to be breezy in the first place :D ) So, I've taken to the treadmill because it gives me the numbers and those help me push myself.. somedays, the math is the only thing that gets me through! :) With this, I could probably run outside like I've always wanted to.. so please consider this my entry.

I wish everyone else luck.. this is sure going to be an inspiring win.

PS: Is this open for commenters from anywhere in the world? Because I'm from India.

  7. I have been drooling all over these lately. I even have one on my amazon wishlist. I'm doing couch to 5K and am on week 3. I'm so slow. I'll probably do week 2 runs a few more times. We have a lot of 5K fundraisers around here and i want to run them all.

  8. I had my little boy over a year ago. I hit my breaking point a about 6 months ago, joined a health club and have lost 74 pounds so far!!! But...even with all of that, it's hard to get motivated. I love playing with him but I'd honestly rather just hang out with him than go to the health club. I have hit another wall and would love to win this to get me back on track. I want to be healthy, I have about 30 pounds more to go...but that seems so far away. I am so truly inspired by your story and your before and after pictures are amazing!! Thank you for sharing your journey with us...you are a true inspiration!!!

  9. How cool of you to give your Nike sportsband away. As you know I'm in love with Edward as you are with Ricky Bobby :)

So I hope that the one who will win this will have so much fun with it.

  10. I already have a Nike+ and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I'm a 50-something, getting down to my goal weight, and I'm a runner. I don't need another, but kudos to you for giving someone else a hand to get started.

  11. I too have a forerunner but if I were to win this I would gift it to my best friends, she's wanting to start running and it would be the perfect tool for her! hope you are taking entries from canada ;-)

  12. Oh this entry is too funny - I am coming up on my first duathlon in 3 weeks and I'm a little nervous about it! :)

No need to enter.. just wanted to comment on your fantastic story!

  13. I'm a running newbie. I did my first 5k this year (ok, I walked it) and now that I'm below 200 lbs (finally!) I've got the desire to get serious about running. This week I'm going to be fitted for my first pair of REAL running shoes... and this would be a wonderful item to have as I start the next leg of my journey!

  14. I would love, love, love this for my running! I did my first 5k in April, and another in May. My next one will be in September and I am really working on improving my speed right now! As of now, I have nothing but google maps to help me figure out my distance. This would be GREAT! If I win, I will find a cute outfit to color coordinate and do a guest post for Friday Fashion :) (Even though I have no fashion sense lol)

  15. I would love to win this! One of my goals in life is to run a half marathon and I'm just getting started (run/walk intervals). I like to run in parks too so it's hard to get an accurate mileage.

  16. I am a newbie runner. I never, ever, ever thought I'd say I like to run. I never dreamed I'd figure this out at *gulp* 40! I am so proud of myself as I just finished week 4 of C25K. I did 3.6 miles on a track at the park on Saturday. I realized I really like running outside better than the treadmill and I was wondering how the heck to know how far and fast I've gone if I run somewhere in my own neighborhood. I've lost 23 pounds, and I have 75 to go. I'm thrilled that I actually like working out after all. I'd love to win your contest and then improve so I can pass it on to someone else someday!

  17. What a fantastic idea to give it away! I need to go that more. Good for you! I am a walker and trying to run. I'm hoping to do a 5K with my kids this fall for the first time. Thanks again!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well, you know I'm a Garmin FREAK so don't enter me! I just wanted to say that I think it's so sweet of you to share the love and encourage a new runner.

As for my running this week? Well, it will be my longest mileage so far in my training... a whopping 25ish miles by the week's end!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Can I name it something else if I win it?! I am proudly running 3 minutes at a time these days. I went from running for about 20 seconds at a time to 3 and that seems like something to celebrate! I will not let my broken leg defeat me!

  20. I would love to win this...my doctor just told me I needed to exercise everyday so I am working my way up to jogging from walking and so on...thanks so much for giving us newbies much needed inspiration and the opportunity to win such an awesome item.

  21. I would love to have this to help me get reintroduced to running after my medical layover. My mind is "aching" to start running again and my body is almost there.

(my word verification is "orfat"...oy vay...just my luck!

  22. I found out I don't like running much, so don't enter me - just wanted to say good morning!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I long to run with the wings of eagles; or a nike sports watch will do!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I've been trying to start running and I just hate it. Maybe this will give me the spark I need. I can walk forever, elliptical, etc. but running is elusive.

    ReplyDelete
  25. What a great giveaway! I just ordered a Garmin (so excited!) so I don't need it. I just wanted to say "hi" and tell you I think you are so awesome to give this to somebody!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I started the C25K earlier this year but got side swiped by something so haven't run for a while till last week when I ran for 5 minutes and it felt so good between my walking.
I really need your Juju to keep me getting where you are.
My name is 'Juju' to my nieces even though I need some of yours :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love how you can say "I am a runner" with no qualification. You simply are a runner. Doesn't that feel great? Thanks so much for all your support recently. It really helps to have good blog friends who are cheerleaders but can still offer real honest opinions.

I probably wouldn't use the stuff you're giving away, so will not add my name to the mix.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Do not, i repeat, do not give this to me. Thank you.

I don't run, I walk, when forced (to the fridge). I plan on running some day (from the law).

And I'm going to send you something. I have not quite decided what though...

    ReplyDelete
  29. I need this because I think my Garmin Forerunner 50 is dying. The battery keeps going out the distances are all wacky and it just won't work half the time. And...I can't afford another one any time soon.

  30. Entry - I'm a newbie to running - more a walker than a runner, doiag 1 minute spurts of running every five minutes. This is not just my aerobic activity but a bit of therapy as well, clearing my head and lifting my spirits. As my improvement is in baby steps, this sportband would really help me see my progress and help keep me inspired. Thank you for considering me.

  31. Ooh, I want to enter! I'm still kind of tentative and limping and running and need encouragement. And my tummy hurts and I'm having a bad week.

    Is that pathetic enough? :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hey, Shelley, so neat that you are passing this on to someone else. I am JUST starting to try my feet at this running thing that you do. I don't think you should enter me though, bc I am SO new at it that there would be very little to actually LOG. haha. But to ME it is a big deal, and I push through, and I'm all proud, and I think of runners like you, and Ann @ Phoenix, and others while I am running. I know that all you official runners had to start somewhere. And so I am. You surely inspire me. And for that I THANK YOU!!
Perhaps the winner of Nike + sportsband here will be moving on to something else and giving it away about the time that I would need it. :)

  33. Ok I am sooo excited about your give away! First off my FAVORITE color is pink! I have been on my healthy life choices journey for almost 1 year my new life anniversary is July 20th and I have lost 92 lbs not bad for a 43year old lady that was never a fitness buff. First I started walking, then purchased an elliptical from the goodwill of course because I thought I could never do it but low and behold I loved and used it so much I broke the pedal flexer with no money to fix it and I did not to quit I have taken up running I am currently doing the couch to 5k plan and using my cell phone as a stop watch which is not easy let me tell you I would soooo much love this watch I am sure I would need your help to use it and a bonus I got new Nike running shoes for mother's day (from the outlet). My plan is to run the 5k for the Patrick Dempsey Challenge on October 3 which raises money for the Cancer Center. I know you will have a lot of interest in this item but, that's my story and I am sticking to it.

  34. Oh you know me. You know all about me. A sometimes runner. The last two weeks have been better than normal. Maybe if I had a Rickie Bobbie wanna-be, I would be motivated to run farther faster. Maybe I'd even time myself and finally break that 10 minute mile!

And I would be honored to share your sweat.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm not entering, I have Ricky Bobby's twin brother (he doesn't have a name, as opposed to my GPS: Ginny Priscilla Schiatti).
I'm just writing to say, omg, I can't believe I am writing this, I am not a newbie runner. After my 5k on Sat., someone who had walked it told me that I am a "runner", and I had to agree :)
I didn't know you did giveaways. How did I miss that?
Send Ricky Bobby his brother's love.

  36. Aww, you are so good for offering to give this away!

I need to get inspired about running again, and I love gadgets. :)

  37. What a great giveaway! I love the whole idea of pay it forward! I am a new, struggling runner who dreams of doing a tri! I would love to have some sort of clue of what distances I am doing :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. That is a great idea of share a newbie running kit like this one.
Sigh. I'm proud of the progress you've made -- and your goal up on the sidebar is awesome!
I've noticed that I don't actually /lose/ pounds unless I run/jog/crawl-very-fast. Cycling isn't doing the job these days.

  39. I am trying hard to be in better shape. I have thyroid problems, which we have finally hit on a dosage that allows me to feel like myself again. I have been walking 2-3 mornings a week, but I know I will need to kick it up a notch here soon and this would help me to do that. Joining a gym is not really an option, as my hubby has been unemployed since Dec 4, so I need workouts that I can do on my own and all the motivation I can get :-)

  41. Okay, longtime reader, first time commenter! :) I'm delurking because I would love to win your Nike SportBand. I'm a newbie runner, just started my fifth week of the C25K program and I honestly think it's changing my life. I never thought I could ever run--even in high school, I walked most of the mile. And yet, now here I am. It's very empowering and it's making me change the way I think about my body. I'm a size 12/14 and I've always hated my legs but now I love them simply because they're carrying me down the road and keeping me going. I'm up to running a mile and I'll be running my first two mile fun run in three weeks. And while trying to prepare and figure out a two mile course, I drove my car around my neighborhood tonight after work over and over again trying to figure out a two mile route. I could absolutely use this :D

  42. Hey Pretty Lady! I don't need to win it, but I did want to see it's a great fun giveaway!! And guess what? Today, drum, roll, please...I ran my 1 mile run for the 26th time. In my mind, that's a freakin' marathon. ROAR! :) Still slow. But getting faster and stronger. I'm going to have a giveaway tomorrow, so hop over tomorrow!! And I would never have taken that first step if not for you. Thanks darlin. xo

  45. I'm a newbie runner, currently training for my first 5k with the C25K program. I just began my weight loss journey, which should have began way before this...but a diabetes scare forced me to realize how much my weight is really hurting me. I think that running is going to be the one thing that pushes me to losing this weight!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I need to win your Nike SportsBand. Because I want to be a runner like you! I have only done 2 5K's, and I am so inspired by the running that you do. I know I am older then you but you are an inspiration to me if you can lose 100+ pounds so can I. I want your Nike SportBand to see the paths of Utah,(the weather is a little cooler here)and help me learn to run like you!

  47. I would love to win this, and with it, gain some momentum-inspiration! I'm half way through C25k, and hope to surprise my husband, a very fit distance runner, to actually running a 5k with him by the end of the summer... he just doesn't know it yet! I'm down 20 lbs since last summer, but I need to step up my training, and this (and your mojo!) may be just the thing!

    ReplyDelete
  48. would love to win this ...just started running at 53 years old!

  49. After a 15-year hiatus from running, I am a rookie runner on week 5 of the c25K program and could really use this too help me track mileage, pace, etc. Thanks!

  50. Hey there, I just found your blog and WOW! You look wonderful and are a true inspiration for us who are aspiring winners!
I started walking first and I'm hoping to soon be running!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I would love to be able to give this to my friend, Melissa, who just started running. She's found her thing, has lost 50 pounds and is starting to run 5ks. I am so proud of her!

    ReplyDelete
  52. This isn't an entry. I run for just a few minutes on the treadmill and walk most of the time. My knees weren't up to the task. Maybe someday with stronger legs and fewer pounds! It's just a comment to commend you for "paying it forward." I love that. Hope the winner feels it's her lucky day!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hi Shelley. I am new to your blog and so glad I found it! First...congrats on your weight loss! I recently started running as well. I have lost 61 lbs so far and I am so excited to get the rest of the 20-30 off. When I first started running I could only do it for a few seconds (literally) and now I can do over 3 miles and have signed up for my first 5K! The Nike wristband would be a Godsend as I prefer to run outside and I am getting tired of getting in my car after I run to see what distance I did! I just did that tonight..hehe. Anyway, glad I found your blog. Feel free to take a look at mine.
