Weekend Wrap Up and Cheribundi Review!

True confession time: I did not get up and run on Friday morning. I got up, let the cats in and the dog out, felt the supremely oppressive humid, hot, thick air (at 7:00 am no less!) and said "heck no" to running! Then I went back to bed for 45 minutes. Some days, it is what it is, people - and on Friday morning, it was Lazy Shelley.

However, on Saturday I did do two sets of 25 push ups. Why? I was sitting at work, bored (it's too quiet on Saturdays) and started flexing my arms - I liked seeing the muscle definition and decided to encourage it along with the push ups. Jeff and I also went for a nice 5.5 mile bike ride on Saturday, and while my legs were a little...not sore, exactly - I guess I was just feeling my muscles a bit - by 8:30 on Sunday morning, we were at a park near my house where I went for a 3.1 mile run - you just knew I couldn't let the weekend go by without running a 5K! As there were no fruit or bagels waiting for me at the (imaginary) finish line, Jeff and I went out for breakfast at Blue Baker, where I got an spinach/egg/feta combo on a chewy multi-grain bagel - YUM.

After we were done with breakfast, we made a quick trip to Target (Mother's Day cards and Kleenex), Home Depot (day lilies and mulch), came home, planted, mulched (um, I *may* have been camped out in a lawn chair, supervising, at this point) and placed several large rocks that we spotted while on our bike ride and went back for with the car (they were out for the trash, which was handy since we had been wanting some accent rocks) on the area formerly known as "Dirt Island" but is now called "Lily Hill - with Rocks" - when the lilies bloom, I'll have to remember to take a picture since at this point if you are still reading then you are invested in this by now!

The point of this rambling post is that when we were done with the rocks, it was 11:15 am - amazing how much we got done, and still had so much of the day left to lay around - all because I actually got up and got moving. I should do that more often!
And now for a quick review of Cheribundi Tart Cherry Juice Drink (FTC alert - I was sent this to try for free!). Yum. Delicious. Tasty. Why yes, I *did* like this product, quite a lot! I was sent bottles of Tru Cherry, Skinny Cherry and Whey Cherry - and as long-time readers know, I do not like to drink my calories - but I made an exception for these drinks. They are not super-sweet - they taste like real cherries, and I happen to love cherries.

While I would not choose the Tru Cherry because of the calories (130 per 8 oz. bottle), I would drink the Skinny Cherry (90 calories) on occasion - I had a few sips of it by itself and then mixed some with club soda, which made for a refreshing drink. A squeeze of lime would have been a good addition - shades of a Sonic Cherry-Limeade...only with more natural ingredients! I was interested in the Whey Cherry because of the added protein - which is nice for after a workout - but with only 8 grams of protein, it's really not enough for me for the 160 calories, so I probably wouldn't use this as a protein source. Still tasted good, though.

If cherries are in season, I would much rather eat 90 calories' worth of them than drink juice. But as we all know, cherry season doesn't last long, so if you want the real taste of cherries year-round, this would be a good option.

  1. YES YES YES.
on the going back to bed (some days we need that!) on the cherries versus the juice.
    on all of it.
    now.
when are we going to meet up for a 5k?
why do I think hilarity would ensue?

  2. Good to know that I am not the only one who has lazy moments though I rarely go back to bed I prefer my favorite comfy couch for napping.
It is getting hot quick here in Florida too. I have to get my outdoors cardio done early now or I have to use my treadmill.

  3. I wasn't going to walk/run yesterday because of all the work I did planting my garden, but about 7 p.m. I was all, "What? I can't NOT go!" So I suited up and wandered around my neighborhood, ended up at a friend's house for the use of their bathroom and then headed home. Was awesome.

Even more awesome because I wasn't going to do it.

And yes, I want to see pictures of your lillies!

  4. Yes, I want to see the lilies too. And you reminded me that I have a bag of oriental lilies that need to be planted this week!

Ooh, you reminded me of what Texas is like. It gets hot here too, but usually not humid, and usually not at 7am.

I LOVE cherries. Not even gonna think about the cherry juice.

  5. I ran to my dojo Saturday morning in 70 degree hot sun beating down humid conditions. But I'm a glutton for punishment. Plus I'm so glad to get off the treadmill! Excellent job on the pushups and I love how you ended up having such an active weekend even though it wasn't strictly planned exercise.

  6. I'm having a couple of days off this week and I got up this morning at 5.45 am (mostly because the hub has to work) and have to be honest I was back in bed at 6.30 am till 8.30 am.

Is there a point to this? .... Yes :)
I love to get up early (not later than 8 am) at the weekend or days I don't have to work. I love to have a long day ahead of me.

Your weekend sounds like a very good one.

  7. Busy girl! I am drinking the cherry juice and I love it! I agree about eating your calories but one of those bottles tasted like cherry pie and I'd rather drink 90 calories of cherry pie than eat a zillion in one piece of pie! Well, not really, the pie is actually tastier I guess!
By the way, if my hubby sees the guy again, I'll be with him and we'll start making out when he sees us!

  8. Good for you for finding the balance and giving in to taking the day off. Like you, I can't really rationalize the calories of juice to rationalize it. I'd much rather enjoy them as a whole food. Thanks for making me smile and sharing your world. I wrote an article about my ww recipe for fluff (also with fruit) and I got some very weird innappropriate responses, ha! Gotta love the weirdos on the net. (BTW, I like YOUR kind of weird.) ;) Enjoy the rest of your week. Hugs, Kirsten

  9. Now...that sounds like a great weekend...Humidity is certainly something difficult to get over...nothing like sucking in "water" when trying to get in some decent air the whole time.

Clearly, you overcame and got your workouts on!

  10. i'm totally with you on the back to bed thing.

Sounds like a great weekend. Good for you.

I don't like to drink my calories either, but will make an exception for fruit juices usually.

  11. My middle sister is an excellent 'supervisor' too when there's yardwork or renovating going on. :)

Good for you for having a completely ENJOYABLE weekend! Oh, and weird: we went to Target, too: M's Day cards and Kleenex were on our list, w/ a few other items. Is it me, or is it really TOUGH to get out of Target w/out buying a whole bunch of extra stuff??? *sigh*

    HUGS from Orlando!
