Re-Committing, or I Should Be Committed - Something Like That...

OK, I've been messing around long enough. It's time to get some more weight off - and what better time to start than with a new challenge that Brad is doing at our workout? For the next eight weeks, those of us who want to participate are partnered up (I'm with Jenny) and we will earn Fit Points based on all sorts of things - which include:
  • Not missing any workouts
  • Running in an organized race (woohoo, already have that one!)
  • Improving our reps on certain exercises - which we won't know when we are setting the baseline to prevent sandbagging...like any of us would ever consider doing that ;)
  • Completing an outdoor obstacle course (this one has me a little scared)
  • Keeping a food journal for a week (easy for me to start this back up)
  • Every % of body weight lost earns a point
So I figure it's time to make this happen. My goal is to lose five pounds over the next eight weeks - I know, dream big, right? How am I going to do this? Well, I'm re-committing to eating "clean" - or cleaner than I have been. My downfall over the last month has been bars - not the ones you drink at, but rather Luna, Lara and their brother, Cliff - all fairly healthy things, but not stuff that is helping me lose weight. Maintain it - yes, I've been doing that just fine. And even though my size has gotten smaller, I still weigh too much for someone of my short stature. I've been eating some really satisfying meals lately (the added healthy fats seem to be helping curb my extreme hunger, thankfully) and thought I'd share pictures...btw, I don't know how you daily food bloggers do it - most of the time I've already started eating before I remember that I wanted to take a picture!
Strawberries and blackberries, with a 100 calorie whole wheat English muffin topped with one T. organic peanut butter (total)Fage, more strawberries (they are really good!), 1/4 C. Kashi Golean Crunch and 1/4 C. walnuts (yes there really is yogurt under all of the toppings!)
Grilled chicken, 1/2 C. brown rice, grilled asparagus (sprayed with Pam and seasoned with salt and pepper - so good!)
Salad with a black bean/corn/pico de gallo mixture, half of an avocado, some grilled chicken and 1 T. parmesean cheese. I made a dressing of plain yogurt mixed with bottled taco sauce which was pretty good - forgot to add it before I took the picture.

Anyway, I am hoping that by eating such appealing, tasty food, I won't be tempted to fall back into the bars. And I am going back to my self-imposed once a week trip to the frozen yogurt place - things got a little out of hand while my kids were home for Spring Break. Five pounds - begone!

  1. I didn't have 8 weeks to spread out my 5 pound loss - so I'm (rather unrealistically perhaps) pushing for "5 in 2". Had I seen the point system two days earlier, I may have joined, but I'm already started on my 14-days-to-climb-a-mountain. This is Day 2.

Either way, I'm with you! Five pounds - begone!

  2. The food looks great! Writing down every bite really keeps you accountable. As they say in Weight Watchers - if you bite it, write it!

    Good luck with your re-commitment!

  4. I know with the picture taking! (Makes me admire Biz even more every time I read one of her posts.) I completely understand about weighing too much for your height. I'm there too. I'm not asking to weigh what I did in high school but I want to be out of the "overweight" category on the BMI charts, which means another 25 pounds for me. I don't care how long it takes I'm slogging it off .2 at a time! I'm right there with you sister so we'll be slow but steady together, okay?

  5. You can do it, Shelly! Your food looks SO good! The only thing I hate about Medifast is that we can't have fruit. I walked into the grocery yesterday and the strawberries looked SO good.

I also SUCK at taking pictures of my food! I might try to start back now that my phone has a good camera...

Thanks for inspiring me to clean out my clutter. Your closet looked so good I decided to work on my garage this weekend so I can finally have that workout area I've been wanting.

  6. I am eating a LaraBar as I type this. You are going to kick those 5 lbs to the curb for sure!

Also I loved your closet pics. You are so organized. You should have shown a before pic. Would have made me feel better about my own closet...lol.

  7. You are on it! And you are invited to come and prepare meals for me anytime. I know you can do 5 in 8. You are such an inspiration!

  8. I think you are right about those bars - I usually keep some on hand just in case I need a boost before a workout so I don't drop my blood sugar too low - but they still taste "processed" to me?

Happy Tuesday - I am going bowling tonight with the exchange students - should be fun!

  11. Five pounds in 2 months seems totally reasonable, and with what you're eating, it should be a breeze.

That salad is killing me. *mmmm*

  13. I think you can totally do this Shelley. Boy I love your food pics, looks like they come from a magazine. When can I come over for dinner?

  14. Love that lunch! I quit the bars cold turkey in March. I was treating them like candy bars, not good. Yes, extra protein, but those calories add up in a hurry.

I need to email you as we are kind of in the same spot currently (although I have been here waaaay too long).

  15. You can definitely ease up on the bars...it just takes a little more planning! You can do it!

  16. You can lose the 5 pounds in 8 weeks! I had a problem with those bars myself and had to go cold turkey. Your pictures of your food look very nice, your salad makes me want to try that this week. I have been wanting to try a cilantro lime dressing, I bought the ingredients to try to make one it would be good on a salad like that. Keep up the good work, you are a big inspiration to me and I love reading your blog.

  18. That salad with the black bean mixture looks scrumptious and, oh my, I would be happy to lose five pounds within the next nine months since I'm experiencing the mother of all plateaus; a cliché, I know, but true.

  19. You go! When food looks that good, how can it not work?

  20. DE-LICIOUS food! And a reasonable goal. We just have to keep re-evaluating and refining, don't we.

And you and your cleaning!! I was looking at an old pre-Christmas blog of mine where I said that you inspired me to clean and decorate. And now you have done it with your closet! REALLY! I have been going nuts with the state of my closet for a couple of weeks now. I am really going to do it. And yes, I might have to make more room for hanging clothes. I was exactly like that 'thank goodness it covers me,' and that was a purchase! Sure is fun to buy something because I really like it and like how I look in it.

  21. all I have to add is:

you have my email...use it! :)

  22. That fruit looks scrumptious! Five pounds is achievable and with those dishes? No deprivation!

Pandora is always calling my name. Like the song of the sirens.

  23. I'll re-commit with you, girlfriend. I need it too (to lose 5 lbs.) Good luck!!!

  24. Love the challenge idea! How does Brad come up with all of these?

Food looks so good! You'll do great in the challenge. I'd be a little afraid of the obstacle course too. You just never know what they can plan up.

I think there should be points for burpees too. They should earn you something! :)
