Friday Catch Up

Well, I am glad to know that it's not just me who has issues with boots...I received many comments that a lot of you have the same problem, so obviously the boot manufacturers have missed the boat on real women's calf sizes! Plus, Cathy has been trying to find boots for the past couple of weeks and she can't get them to zip over her calves either!

Look at the cute panel that my mom sent me - she enlarged, colored and layered it on coordinating cardstock (my mom never goes halfway!)

I wanted to share with y'all a yummy treat I found in our local "healthy" grocery store - it's called Fruit Pearls, and while similar in concept to Dippin' Dots ice cream, the flavor I tried is only 60 calories for the entire container!

This was very fresh and citrus-y tasting - the container was about the same size of an 8 oz. yogurt, so I felt like I got a lot of bang for my buck. Speaking of bucks, these were a tad on the pricey side - I paid $2.29 - but for a frozen treat, it was definitely worth it!
Nutrition info...Looked kinda funny, but tasted really good!

If you were wondering why I didn't do a Wednesday Workout Update post this week, it's because the entire post would have consisted of "Ow. Ow. Ouchie. Ow ow ow." Word to the wise: when asked by your trainer how things are going, never say you're just a pound and a half away from a major milestone...because your trainer will respond "oh, a couple of good workouts and you'll be there" - hence the ouchies! Well, that and the fact that I am a baby when it comes to stretching my hamstrings and I have paid for that by being practically crippled every morning when I first get out of bed. It gets better as the day goes on, but dang it, when will I learn - stretching after a hard workout is a necessary evil!

  3. I saw on your sidebar that you also read Jen Lancaster's blog. Did you know she just wrote about boots and calves too? It was in her post about finding plus size clothing that is cute. And now I want some of that frozen fruit stuff!

  4. That fruit looks fun!

I laughed at your workout, because that is how I have been all week. My husband said "I don't feel bad for you, you did it voluntarily" LOL!

  5. Shelley, these are your hamstrings talking...stretch us! STRETCH us!!

I could get on board with frozen dessert thingy. I'll have to ask my one and only health food store guru within 60 miles if she can get some.

And regarding calves, I bought a pair of boots last year and they were loose in the calves. I'm the same weight (give or take a pound or two) this year and when I put them on the other day, they were a little snug up top! It had nothing to do with weight, but muscle. So manufacturers need to get their heads on straight: women are building their calf muscles! Make books accordingly!!

  6. Funny woman! :)
I do have the bad habit by not stretching well enough after workouts but I'm learning.

One good pain usually helps :)

I know we have some stores in Holland who sell boots for woman with big calves. I suppose there must be some in the USA too?

  7. I haven't worn boots in years for that same reason!! Weird?!

Sorry for the ouchies, but it will pay off in the end!

  9. I've always had huge calves, even at my goal weight. I think it's genetic. No boots for me! Yum on the fruity thingies, and I hear ya on the stretching. I've been skipping it lately and that ain't good.

  11. That was a funny Cathy comic your Mom sent you.

You are so blessed to still have your Mom, and she sounds like a good, good pal. =)

  12. I have found a few pair of boots that have adjustable bands around the calves.

  13. The first pair of knee high boots I bought I had to pay extra for the "extended calf" size from J. Crew. They make boots for tiny women with tiny calves...I have real people sized legs.

I'm definitely going to look for that frozen fruit stuff, it looks pretty good!

  16. Just caught up on your last couple of posts....I have the same calf problem and have since high school....they developed when I started taking dance and I've always had "man calves"...Marcelle seems to think when I get to goal weight that boots will fit, but I don't think so, lol...I think I'm just screwed in the boot department. :( You're doing great Shelley...congrats on the Woman's Day article!! I can't wait til it comes out so I can pick up a copy! :)
