An Experiment...

I weighed myself this morning, as I do most Wednesdays. Tomorrow is the holy grail of eating, Thanksgiving. Do I plan on not eating my turkey dinner just because I’m on a diet? Oh hell no! Will I have a slice of cold pumpkin pie for breakfast on Friday morning? You betcha! And will I have a sandwich made with leftover turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and Miracle Whip? Of course!

Why would I do all that and possibly endanger my diet?

Two reasons. One: I love the aforementioned items. We only have them once a year. So I’m not going to deny myself – after all, Thanksgiving 2009 is a long way off! I plan on eating one plate with everything I love for dinner, pie for dessert that night, followed by breakfast pie and then the fabulous sandwich. The second reason that I plan on doing this is because I really don’t believe that eating like that will cause me to gain weight over the course of a week. Hence, the weigh-in the day before. I want to prove to myself that I can enjoy the holiday in my usual manner without gaining weight – provided I go back to normal, healthy eating after I’ve eaten what I want.

I hope that by identifying what I want to eat, I will be in control of the holiday – and not simply eating everything in sight and stuffing myself repeatedly over the course of the four-day weekend.

I’ll let you know how this worked out after I weigh in next Wednesday. And a Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow bloggers!

  1. Be thankful for your common sense in not depriving yourself on this special occasion. There will be plenty of us doing the exact same thing. Enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving.

  2. I would have to agree with you mother! Miracle whip is a travesty!
